What can anyone here tell me about Gary "Spike" O'Sullivan, the 154 lb. Irish boxer? I know he won several Irish amateur titles, but I don't know much else.
Gary has only had 2 pro fights but has had the best amateur career of any active Irish pro fighter. He is an aggressive fighter with an excellent left hook and jab and a great inside game. Very difficult to tie up and excellent uppercuts with either hand. Needs work on his defence as he has a tendency to brawl a bit but can also be elusive if the situation calls for it. Believe he is at LWW now but will probably move up to WW very soon as he can easily carry the weight. Definitely a prospect to keep an eye on.
"irlandsk", would you know about Jon O'Brien as well? He fought on the same card as O'Sullivan in Boston, and won on a stoppage I think.
After watching Arthur Abraham tonight, I think he might be an interesting test for Duddy. AA is tough, finished the fight with Miranda even having a broken jaw, but boxing skills are suspect. He has dangerous power, but I think Duddy outboxes him. It may be just the test he needs after his last outing. He simply CANNOT make the mistakes he made in his defense last fight though. But, I think that is what makes this a good next step for him.
I never saw the Abraham fight, but I do think Duddy is a fighter that has abilities to work off. He impresses me despite his escape in the last encounter. He is tough, and he can punch. He has a warriors heart which I think sets him aside from some other irish fighters, he has something you could build on. I think his career is far from over. Duddy needs to box before he gets it on so to speak, I think his handlers will be preparing him for much bigger adventures, AND we remember they got him this far.
O'Brien fights again on the 19th of April in Dublin, as does Spike O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan has impressed thus far in his short career, whereas O'Brien up to know hasn't shown the same promise as some of our better prospects.Although not announced yet, the April 19th promotion could be shown on Setanta Ireland, as they are sponsoring the event.

I,m aware of that fight in Cork last year.A knockdown doesn't mean you have a poor chin.It was a flash knockdown,he wasn't badly hurt or wobbled, simply caught to square-on.I have watched McCloskey a long time, longer than you I,m sure of that. And he has never shown a poor chin in all that time.:hi:
Very Very Impressive perfomance by Dinny, look forward to seeing him fight in the future. I dont want to get carried away but i believe he is well above British level right now, though I want to see him in against Lynes. Ardy what club did you box for in the north of the city?
I watched AA fight on a live stream yesterday in his title defense. He has one of the belts Pavlik wants to unify. He is the kind of 'next step' we were talking about. He wants to fight Pavlik though, so I don't know if he would risk Duddy. He hasn't faced much of anyone since Miranda broke his jaw.
i seen AA fight a few times...looks powerful...but can be outboxed...eastman was robbed against AA...i think duddy could beat him
good morning boys and i must say what a night,what a performance from paul,he was pure skill and composure and showed alot of stamina,in fairness,when bazan wanted to he did get inside at time and showed what looked to be crushing body shots,but i think the way paul handled them says alot for him. yep,ardy i must say his reflexes are superb and even though with the defence he has (he will get hit) it will take someone with very good power to put him out.he showed a great jab last night and when he really wanted to put pressure on he was able to follow thois jab up with some swift combinations. we must say that if he steps up again in his next fight and puts in a simliar performance he is definatly ready to make a challenge for the euro titile,and in honesty i cant see lynes beating him.
o aye forgot to say,even though derry has some great boxers at the minute,boxing is dead in derry! i was in a packed city centre pub last night which was predominantly men,the fight was on 2 massive screens and then numerous smaller screens throughout the bar,me and a group of about 10 other fellas and that was including the bar men were only interested in the fight and i heard so many people asking after they saw a fight was on asking 'who's that?' this fight had a **** load of coverage in the local media,i only got home yesterday afternoon from scotland and seen so much coverage for this fight.then after the fight you had a pile of people thinking they know everything there is to know about boxing. really pisses me off.
