Los Angeles, California: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (40-0-1, 30 KOs) arrived on Tuesday in Los Angeles, California from Culiacan, Sinaloa, and then went to his hotel, and then went to the Wild Card Gym to train with Freddie Roach for 45 mins.


Chavez Jr is preparing for his next fight on June 26 in San Antonio Texas at the Alamadome, where he faces the Irishman John Duddy (29-1, 18 KOs) in a Top Rank promotion.


"I'm doing great, I had three weeks to train in Culiacan and now I'm starting with Roach, whom I consider a great coach and strategist, an I hope to learn a lot and that he'll help me a lot in my career," Chavez Jr. said, 24 years of age.


Julius Cesar went 30 minutes on the mitts with Roach, where he was constantly showing movements and attacks in the ring.


"I felt good on my first day with Roach," said Jr who was also working with Colombian fitness coach Alex Ariza.

Chavez Jr. will be running in the mornings at different places that will be prepared Ariza and several hours of training at the Wild Card Gym.


The eldest son of the living legend Julio Cesar Chavez said that when his promoters Bob Arum and Fernando Beltran asked him to train with Roach, he immediately accepted.


Roach said he was pleased with the performance of Chavez Jr.


"Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has great potential as a boxer, I have no doubt that in the four remaining weeks we will bring the best of him," Roach said.

World ranked and undefeated middleweight Julio César Chávez, Jr. (40-0-1, 30 KOs) arrived in Los Angeles today from his hometown Culiacan, Mexico to finish his preparation for his next bout. Chávez arrived around noon and set himself up in a downtown hotel and then made his way to the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, where he worked with Freddie Roach for the first time. Chávez is getting ready to face John Duddy on Saturday, June 26 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas in the main event of “Latin Fury 15″, a big pay-per-view card promoted by Top Rank Inc.
“I have been training in Culiacan for three weeks and I have come to finish my training with Freddie Roach who I consider a great trainer and a tremendous strategist and will help me take my career to the next level,” said Chávez, Jr.
Chávez, Jr. worked with Roach on the mitts for over 30 minutes, following very intensely every indication made by the trainer who mainly worked on movement and staying aggressive as well as being on the offense of the game.
“I felt very good with Roach for being the first time we worked together, as we got along we will work even better. I come here with an open mind and to give it my all,” Chávez, Jr. said who was assisted by Alex Ariza since his arrival at the Wild Card.
Ariza will supervise Chávez, Jr’s running and Roach will take over in the afternoon boxing session at the Wild Card.
“Bob Arum and Fernando Beltran suggested that I trained with Roach and I jumped at the chance to work with such a great trainer,” said Chávez Jr.
Roach seemed happy with what he saw from Chávez, Jr. today.
“Julio César Chávez, Jr. has a lot of potential as a boxer and I feel very confident that these last four weeks before his fight will be enough to get him ready to be the best that he can be,” Roach said.
After a second day of work at the Wild Card on Wednesday, Chávez, Jr. will fly to San Antonio for a press conference on Thursday.

I think this is going to be a good fight for as long as it lasts. I reckon Chavez is a wee bit better than people think.
