Irish Boxing

I am questioning a mans Irishness am I? You are a dumb **** Fra - infact I am doing the opposite, I am not deciding what kind of Irishman anyone is - I would like to see him do that for himself rather then me impose that upon him. If any fighter from the six comes out and declares himself Irish then I have gladly, only too gladly, list the tricolor beside their name e.g. McKay, McCloskey, Duddy, Haughian, Rogan etc. I am not the one who decides they are Irish - they do that and until I know what they consider themselves I am not going to make their minds up for them. Maybe you need to have another read of the GFA with respect to the issue of nationality! Nothing in either of your posts made any sense - your a brainless dick. his visa runs out this summer and then he's moving home - delight to see him back and in Irish rings (oh saucy!) - the mans a gent and I would love to see him fight Andy Murray.

 

i haven't seen much of Murray but he's looking good so far.hopefully he can keep it going.

 

the last time i watched barrett he was promoted by mick hennesy.
He would be on the undercard of the class of 2000 fighters like carl froch..
francie was a tough fighter but i think boxing was simply not making him enough money.

to be honest I wasnt even on page 143 when I posted that reply - I saw it am drived in without reading replies - but can ya blame me. Anyway - once Fra apologies for his wayward abuse then I am happy to forget about it. I wont to addressing the issue again unless requested to.

 

Last time I saw him he had an unconvincing win over Oscar Milkitas at the National Stadium.I heard that after the Olympics he got married sometimes that spells the end for traveller fighters - they get distracted and have the responsibility of heading and providing for the family and sometime lose focus on the game.

Quarry Kayoes Shavers! Bring on Foreman!

It was the counter-puncher vs the puncher and in one furious round the counterpuncher came out on top. Jerry Quarry, New York, NY, via Los Angeles, CA, doubled the fearsome Earnie Shavers, Warren, Ohio, over with a vicious shot to the stomach. Shavers stumbled into the ropes as the Irishman rained punches down from all angles. Shavers did manage to land his famous straight right to the chin stopping Quarry for a moment and forcing him to clinch. But Quarry quickly resumed his attack and hurt Shavers almost immediately. Referee Arthur Mercante stopped it at the last seconds of round one with Shavers being pummelled along the ropes glassy eyed and ostensibly helpless. Shavers' manager Don King moaned that Earnie had quit. On the other hand, Gil Clancy, Jerry's trainer, called out heavyweight champion George Foreman. This fight on December 14, 1973 capped off an explosive 1973 campaign for Quarry. He started out the year marrying a beautiful Las Vegas showgirl - Arlene Charles (Charlie) a tall, statuesque blonde haired beauty. He then easily beat the undefeated and favored Ron Lyle in 12 one-sided rounds. "Who the hell is Lyle? Just another guy coming down the pike that's all! After I beat him he'll be fighting for a couple hundred bucks a fight and I'll still be drawing big money." For once, Quarry's prefight prediction came true as he boxed smartly, picked Lyle clean with counters, bloodied Ron's nose and mouth, and won easily. Lyle's huge shots did not even dent the anvil-chinned Irishmen's chin. Quarry knocked out Tony Doyle and then thrashed Randy Neumann (yeah, the current referee) in seven brutal rounds. A proposed bout with Argentine strongman Oscar Bonavena was called off because of a back injury sustained by Ringo (Bonavena). So Quarry fought Shavers instead and scored the sensational win. Shavers was 47-1 (45 KO's) coming into the bout with Quarry.

PS- The Foreman fight sadly never happened. This was Jerry's absolute best chance to win a title. Foreman probably knew something we don't know. Quarry had a great chance to upset Big George.

All we need now is for TG4 to start showing boxing znd we have a full house.

 

tg4 actually were showing some old documentarys on irish boxing a while back...there was a couple of good uns on Mike McTigue and Jack Doyle..

 

Irish media are certainly coming to the party with boxing, which demonstrates a differant train of thought in Ireland to the sport. Must be because Irish people are showing interest in Irish boxers, and boxing is lifted from the minority sports status.
