The only thing I can base him on is he had a contreversial win against Shea neary. Neary had some skill but Micky Ward obliterated him in an exciting fight. From what i heard Magee was lazy and didnt like to train. He was also in a stacked divison so it would have been hard for him to make noise.
yeah ml..magee had a reputation of drinking and taking drugs right up until the time of the fight...he was also stabbed..shot...in street brawl after strreet brawl....he also hated mcguigan...who was the complete opposite to him...ml who do u think is the most talented irish fighter ever..
Magee's life would make a hell of a movie or documentary. I don't know about most talented but the most accomplished would probably be Mcguigan and Gene Tunney. For an ethnic group so closely associated with fighting there certainly have not been many dominating champions.
i think the problem with irish boxers or irish americans..is that they like a toe to toe brawl...rather than a boxing match..well thats us irish for yea....we always do things the hard way
Exactly irish fighters like Mexicans make the most exciting fights. Its usually take two or three to land one. Usually it looks like it can take place in a bar rather than a ring.
The guy clearly hurts Hatton with the exact same punch as Floyd and the ref has the audacity to stop the action. Ridiculous!!!!!
You guys would certainly know better than me. The guy trains hard for this opportunity and he cleary hurts Hatton and the ref stops to tie his shoe? I wonder how much time he gave Ricky. The similarity of Juan and Floyd's punch was amazing.
Just wanted to add you can see why Magee's counterpunching off the back foot was successful. He used his aggression against him. Did any of you attend that fight?
i know what u mean...it looked a bit strange did u notice the importance the ring mag belt has become.. hatton had it around him when he did the post fight interviews....its an example of the state of the sanctioning bodies.
Iwasnt there, but I watched live on Sky, the english boxing pundits on sky thought that Magee easily had the beatings of Hatton that night, but blew it.
