Did anyone get this mornings Star and see Gerry Callan's report on Macklin wanting to fight the best fighters out there in the middleweight division a good write up but the only thing that lets it down is the picture in the report. Instead of a picture of Macklin there is a picture of the fresh faced Funtime Frankie Gavin someone must of had there Xmas party over the weekend.:tong:hey:rofl:rofl.

Sounds like the only thing holding back the fight with Rigo is tv rights in Ireland. Casey is mad for it!

 

And who can blame him for being mad for it! I'm sure himself and his team had faith in his ability but even they couldn't have imagined how quickly everything was going to happen.

It's all about taking the chances presented to you. He got the sub spot on Prizefighter and made the most of it. He got the chance to replace Martinez and he made the most of it. All he sees now is another bit of good fortune breaking his way and presenting him with another opportunity.

Who is to say that Willie can't do it again! There are obvious reasons he'd be an underdog but that suits him fine. Also, it will push the odds up on him and give me a chance to win another few bob on him!

The odds on Rigo will be low because he's the (interim) title holder. The fact he'll be 1/12 doesn't mean I'd be brave to back anyone but Casey (who will probably be 5/1 the win and 8/1 the KO) it just means there's no value in backing Rigo for a normal punter.

 

The Willie Casey story is becoming more fantastic at every turn. I wish him every bit of luck and sucess. It is the kind of story that cheers everyone up and makes people believe anthing is possible and at no time was that more needed than it is now.

It appears that a lot of things are in place for this fight to happen but an obstacle is tv coverage in Ireland/UK. Brian Peters has RTE contractually obligated to him. TV3 doesn't really have a sports department or a budget. I read the Gary Hyde thinks it more likely that sky sports will get involved but how realistic is that. The last time I can recall sky broadcasting a show from the republic was Collins/Eubank at the same venue in Millstreet, but at that time Eubank was the star attaction on sky.

With this contast being a Cuban/American v Irishman would the vast majority of sky's British paying subscribers have enough interest in this for sky to get involved? I have my doubts.

Could Setanta/Premier Sports get involved in this or does their relationship with McGuigan complicate matters. Failing that, what are the chances of Brian Peters joining Hyde and Dolphil in the co-promotion.

Many a slip between cup and lip, but it would be crimimal if such a golden opportunity were missed.

 

Peters is a smart Buisnessman. I imagine that he woulc come back with a counter offer to Hylde and Dolphil on a 50/50 splite with a Macklin or Lee or Murray or McCloskey counter offer.
Any of those 4 could work with Sky or RTE and potentially include a European title fight as a co feature.
