I really hope McCloskey does not have to fight Lauri again. He should just vactae if he does. Surely Brian Peters can do something for him or Barry Hearn?

I was looking for any write-ups on the recent Dolphil card - has anyone any links?

Maloney told us at the presser on Tuesday that Francis Croes had agreed in principle to the fight - so unless he has pulled out? Hopefully he is on the card I was looking forward to seeing all the flyweights on the same card - it would have been good to compare them all.

My thoughts exactly. Think Conlan will be British champ by end of 2011. Hard for him to get fights at that weight though

Don't think he should vacate unless he has something concrete lined up and I doubt that he does. Got to see if the Olusegun-Chebah WBC title eliminator happens in Jan. If one of them pulls out again then McCloskey would probably be next in line to step in as a replacement, going by the WBC ratings at least.

Looks like hes having this voluntary defence in Feb anyway, but who will it be against? Not many great names in the EBU top 20... Probably go for Daws or Zamora???

IABA announce team for Abbas Agalarov Youth Cup

    Tuesday, 14 December 2010 10:37
The Irish Amateur Boxing Association has named a six-strong squad for the 20-nation Abbas Agalarov Youth Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Joe Ward, who claimed an AIBA World Youth title in Baku this year, will wear the light-heavyweight vest for Ireland.

Evan Metcalfe, Declan Milligan, Michael McDonagh, Kieron Forde and Christy Joyce will also be competing for Ireland.

Baku has proved to be a happy hunting ground for Ward as he won a gold medal in the Azerbaijani city at this tournament last year.

Ryan Burnett, who won a historic gold medal for Ireland at the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore this year, also finished in a podium position at the prestigious tournament.

Jimmy Payne will be working Ireland's corner in Baku, along with Eddie Bolger.

The Ireland squad depart for Baku on Tuesday morning.

Ireland squad for the Abbas Agalarov Youth Cup Baku, Azerbaijan, 14-19 December:

    49kg: Evan Metcalfe (Crumlin)
    56kg: Declan Milligan (St Paul's)
    60kg: Michael McDonagh (St Mary's)
    64kg: Kieron Forde (Monivea)
69kg: Christy Joyce (St Michael's Athy)
    81kg: Joe Ward (Moate)

    Team manager: Joe Charles
Coaches: Jimmy Payne & Eddie Bolger
    Physio: Ursla Brooks
    R&J: Philip Rooney
