Thats interesting news big ears, but your link isnt working:bartBut those cubans could revolutionize Munster boxing.:good
Interesting! I read a little bit about him, I think he fought most of the big names. As the author, how do you rate him among the big names,(Sullivan,Fitz,Corbett, etc.)?:hi:
Does anybody know what the story is with Mike Perez. He wasn't on the Egan or the Dunne shows and he isn't down to fight this weekend. Unless he is injured you would have to question what is going on. Initially he was fighting on all the Brian Peters shows but hasn't been heard of more recently.
Cheers for the high praise lads. We have an interview out with McCullough up on the site. will no doubt lead to a lot of debate.
In 1896 Corbett retired and presented the title to the winner of a fight between his protegy Steve O'Donnell and Maher. Maher won on a first round ko and had reasonable recognition(a la Marvin Hart). He was challanged by Fitz who had beaten him 4 years earlier. Fitz beat him in a famous fight in Mexico. That contest took place just across the Rio Grande from Langtry and was promoted by Judge Roy Bean who moved it across the river to twart the Texas Rangers who sought to outlaw the fight. Maher I wold rate just behind Fitz and Corbett but ahead of Ruhlin and Sharkey. Sullivan was on a par but Maher was the biggest puncher of the lot IMO.
What is Sinky's plan in terms of boxing again? Also Cormac, I found this article on your site about Moore wanting to fight Coyle. Is Peters or Egan close to getting any of those 2 appearing on any of their future promotions. http://www.irish-boxing.com/stories/july08/july08_moore_on_coyle.html
Hey matt, this sounds like a must read for any boxing/Irish boxing enthusiast. Are you from Ireland? Can this book be bought in the high street? Cormac, of Irish boxing.com should do a review of this book on his site!!! What do you say Cormac?
Mickrick1, I know Perez was due to fight in spain but it was cancelled.Gary Hyde,Perez's manager is also a promoter. He had 2 successive promotions last year in Cork. Hyde should promote the cubans himself, along with some Cork talent. IMO that is the road Hyde should go!!!!!:thumbsup
I'm from Kilmaine, County Mayo(God help us)' The book will be in the stores but it will be a few weeks. I should have copies myself by then also and if you PM me I can give you details. Also Amazon and the like will have them but that takes a bit of time. And if Cormac is interested I can send him a copy for review, obviously I'd love to.
...you'll have to read his column. Its going up later today. Also John Joe Joyce's new diary entry. Id imagine Peters and Egan would be keen to get Moore and Coyle on their shows - but with anything Im sure the price and timing would have to be right. The more the fans call for it the more likely it is to happen
Big Ears is running a thread about the Cubans and a Show in Cork in September, on the main forum. Heres the story. http://www.irishexaminer.com/irishe...-qqqm=sport-qqqa=sport-qqqid=67479-qqqx=1.asp
Cormac, will you be doing Matts book review? Book reviews of various Irish boxing related stories would make an excellent addition to the already superb Irish boxing.com!!!!:yep
