I think that boat has sailed, the Setanta deal was probably only a stop gap until Sky came knocking.McGuigan is much better going with Sky, and Belfast boxing will profit from this and the matchroom conection.
But if Setanta are interested in helping to fund some Irish boxing, then why don't they show the forthcoming Hyland show. This is a fantastic small hall show with quailty boxers and some decent contests.

If not to seem too critical of Carl [ and I judge him by the harshest of standards], I think he was looking at times to be too clinical last night. I would much have prepared him to throw more shots, than he did. Carls workrate needs to improve as he goes up the levels because opponents aren't going to wait around on Carl deciding when he is or isn't [in a lot of occasionals last night] going to throw punches. Its better now to have this sort of learning fight, as he might not get away with these tactics against better foes. The boys in the Brit forum [the worse place in ESB] are crowing now, that Quigg will take Frampton. Can't wait until Carlos faces him.
If Murray had of tried going to the body more last night he would have been champion today. Its a shame, Rees is on borrowed time with this belt. Next decent opponent he faces will take him.

    Colin Harte on Barry McGuigan

On Murray, would a Belfast rematch be a runner? I think Rees wants to move quickly on.

Colin Harte is an arsehole. FACT!

I doubt Rees would be interested in a rematch but he really is on borrowed time as Ardy said. I'd agree Murray fluffed his lines

Seen somewhere that Roach said After the fight that he wants Chavez Jr to Fight Andy Lee next on HBO sounds appealing to me,

I'd love that. Lee could knock him out for sure!

Lee is struggling so badly technically the last thing I want to see is him come up against a Freddie Roach fighter.

Look I think Lee is capable of beating him but all the McEwen fight did was give Roach a good look at many of Lees flaws. We all know Roach can find ways to exploit weakness. So IMO Lee needs to tighten things up before jumping in with another Roach fighter. He won't always get out of jail the way he did against McEwen. And, to be perfectly honest, I don't rate McEwen too highly myself so a last gasp knockout win over him isn't much of a statement.

I think he's wasting his time with Steward at this stage to be honest.

Jeez lads last night was a bit of a let down. Murray isnt great but he looked very average. Hes so mechanical and predictable. Doesn't have a plan B at all. I was hoping he would just keep Rees and the end of his jab and go to the body anytime Rees tried to pressure him. He couldn't land on Rees for 4 or 5 rounds and didnt even go to the body! :fire

Carlos was too eager to blow his man away early and ended up making heavy work of it. I was expecting it to be over within 6 or 7 rounds, but there were a lot of flaws in that performance. Suppose its better to learn at this stage and be able to work on the mistakes. Hes still a novice afterall. Going 10 tough rounds will do him no harm either. Only drawback is that was his debut on Sky and the casual fan seeing "McGuigans boy" for the first time wont have been too impressed. Might work in his advantage though, as he could be easier to match in the future. :good

The problem with our fighters is they have too many easy fights against bums and then they are thrown in with someone two levels above anyone they have ever faced before (Dudey, Murray, Hyland) and they lose. Lee will meet the seem fate when he steps up :deal

Ardy, I agree with you on Rees, he is on borrowed time. His stamina really left him towards the end of the fight and if Murray had of banged him to the body often in the earlier rounds he could have slowed him down a lot earlier. I was surprised that Rees found it so easy to land the jab on the Murray. Overall, I dont think Murray did himself justice last night, there is a better fighter trying to get out and I was not impressed with his gameplan.

As for Carlos, it was a good learning fight and his first real test, but as he said himself in Slappy's interview, he didnt use his boxing skills until the second half of the fight. I think Carl has great footwork and he needs to use that from the first bell, especially as he faces better opponents. But, it was a clear win, he experienced his first cut, adapted, and got ten rounds under his belt, so plenty to gain from this. I think we all are a bit guilty of looking past Turley, I thought looking at his record, Carl would blow him away, but records are deceiving and he proved to be a good, strong fighter.

    Good point's.
I still see this as a 50/50 fight but Lees power could tip the scales in his favor.

I think your right Steward has taken him as far as he can.
Where would he go that would benefit him and turn him into the beast he should be?
