I had it 7-5 rounds to Macklin. Knew he wasn't gonna get the decision when the final bell went. Hopefully we see a rematch.

 

Some fight. Macklin has shown he is truely a World Class fighter. To go to Germany and take the fight to the home fighter for the majority of the fight it is heartbreaking when it goes against him. I had him winning the fight his work to the body in the fight was brilliant and he hurt Sturm a number of times. I had him by 2 rounds. Strum didnt do a lot early doors but slowly came into it in the second part of the fight. I hope he gets a rematch but I cant see it happening fight of the year contender will do him the world of good and may well get him another crack at a World title fight down the line. In the US he would of got that fight.

As soon as he saw the tricolour and heard Amhran na bhFiann he was always going to be on Macklins case. It said it all that he had it level.

It was funny/infuriation him talking about the 'quality' Sturm was producing when he was popping out single shots that bounced off Macklins arms.

If you wanted to call it close then fine. 116-112 = 8 rounds to 4 rounds. It's an absolute disgrace to only give Macklin 4 rounds. He wont at least 4 of the first 6 rounds. So Sturm won the last 6? No way.

I can't believe there are people on the general forum giving the fight to Sturm,
He threw cleaner punches yeah I agree but Macklin dominated the fight he went to the body early and didn't let off and ****ed Sturm up,
sturm started to fight after rd 5 he would rally for the first 30 seconds and then it was all Macklin
Strum could not get into his jab routine because Macklin got in his face from the get go.
Macklin was Sturms worst nightmare tonight.
I watched the fight with 6 people all different nationalities so the only biased person was me when the score was announced I was the last person to complain what the **** does that tell ya.


I lost respect for Felix before he even got in the ring tonight with his bull**** making Macklin wait 30 mins before he came to the ring.

Lanxess-Arena, Cologne, Germany - WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm (36-2, 15KOs) retained his title with a twelve round split decision over a game Matthew Macklin (28-3, 19KOs) in a very exciting fight. Levi Martinez (USA) gave it to the challenger 115-113. He was outscored by Spaniard Jose Ignacio Martinez and Puerto Rican Roberto Ramirez who both awarded it to Sturm with identical scores of 116-112. The referee was Hall-of-Famer Stanley Christodolou of South Africa. Macklin came on very strong and took the fight to the champion in every round. Sturm was forced to suck it up and come back in the second half of the fight to save his title on the scorecards. *********** had it 115-113 for Macklin.
Macklin started with a few body shots, before Sturm picked things up and started with his jab and then went to work. Macklin came back to the body and continued to target the ribcage for most of the three minutes. Macklin came out fast in the second, switching the attack between the body and the head. Sturm started putting some power behind his punches to get Macklin's respect. The third round was a back and forth battle. Macklin was pushing the action and Sturm answered back with combinations of his own at the end.
More action in the fourth, with Sturm landing the harder and crisper punches. Sturm continued to get the better of the inside fight in the fifth but Macklin was doing more work and keeping the tempo going at a very fast rate. Sturm was doing good work in the sixth, with Macklin coming back with a very good combination of punches to send the champion back to the ropes.
They went back on the inside at the start of the seventh round. Macklin slowed down a little and Sturm came on to change the tide. Macklin was going back to the body in the eight but couldn't break the champion's guard to land something upstairs. Sturm was boxing and using the jab to push Macklin away. A close ninth round would follow, with Sturm starting well but Macklin picking it up to end the round.
Sturm using accurate jabs and hooks in the tenth. Macklin starting to tire but always coming forward with combinations. Sturm landed a big uppercut to shake Macklin's head. Macklin and Sturm started trading big punches in the final minute. Sturm landed several more big uppercut and Macklin was shaken up.
Sturm continued to work very hard in the eleventh with hooks to the head and body. A game Macklin continued to throw back with combinations. Sturm covering up and blocking many of the shots, but a good shot opened up a cut above his right eye.
The met in the middle at the start of the twelfth. They were trading good punches. Sturm was getting off first and Macklin was returning fire with both hands. Sturm landing better but Macklin throwing more to make it close. In the final ten seconds, Sturm put together his best combination of punches in the entire fight to get Macklin in trouble.

Charismatic but also too robotic and too plodding German/Lebanese heavyweight Manuel Charr (18-0, 10 KOs) failed to live up to any expectations in his controversial and unspectacular seventh round stoppage of glass-shot former world title challenger Danny Williams (43-10, 33 KOs), 37. Charr, 26, who was severely cut near his right eye, was too strained and too mechanical to deliver one punishing blow. He was significantly helped by the referee who stepped in to put a halt to the fight after just a couple of barely meaning blows in the seventh round. Not a nice win for Charr.

I've had the pleasure of Charlies company before and he told me his opinion of Mr Watt. I promised it wouldn't be repated so I won't say what he said here. All I will say is that it wasn't too complimentary

 

What were the results of the Craigavon card?

 

The fight was scored like an amateur fight, they scored the fight on Sturms single punches rather than the whole round which Macklin was active for I had Macklin up by 2 rounds and im glad one judge agreed. I think someting has to be done with the biased judging in Germany even when Daniel Gelae beat Sylvester two judges had it 118-110 and 118-112 to Geale but yet one judge had it 118-110 Sylvester, how the **** can one judge see it that differently? its total bull****! Mack deserves a rematch but tonight he gave Sturm the toughest fight he got in years so why would he give mack a rematch when he poses a genuine threat to his crown when he can go back to hand picking his opponents that pose no threat to him,

 

Anyone on here looking premier sports? For the fights just ****ing around with sky box and I ended up getting it

 

Well, got home from the Craigavon show and then put the Kell Brook and Macklin fights.

Macklin won that fight by a couple of rounds, but this is Germany they were never going to give that to him. Watt gave a couple of close rounds to Sturm in the middle that I gave Macklin - but the judges (two of them) were on the payroll.
