Fitzy wont want to fight spike after what spike just did to Long!:deal

 

Will Macklin get a rematch after that fight? I know he said in the after fight interview that he will because most people had him winning the fight even German tv. Will Macklin go back there and be in the same boat again needing a KO to beat Sturm because the judges are so much behind German fighters over there.

 

Line those "judges" up

Are the individual round scorecards usually published after fights? I'd like to see what 8 rounds the two judges gave to Sturm.

I really dont think it was a robbery. It was a close fight and I can understand people scoring it either way but I couldnt call it a robbery. Yes Macklin was busier but so many of his punches werent landing and many that did were pure arm punches. Sturm was blocking a lot of shots and landing some great shots. Sturm was landing the memorable punches. I think the straight right could have worked better for Macklin. He rarely threw it but when he did he was forcing it through Sturms guard , but he stuck with the uppercuts which were mainly bouncing off elbows. I take it Im the only Irishman that had Sturm winning. Still a great performance from Macklin and I hope he gets a rematch. Could have given Sturm too much of a fright for that though

Sturm knows what it feels like to get robbed in a decision, hopefully he will do the correct thing and give Macklin the rematch.

 

i had it 114-114 could see it either way tbh

 

I had it 115-113 to Sturm but only because I was scoring it as if I was as much of a **** as Jim Watt but also Germany.

Pretty much everyone at ringside scored it to Macklin including Boxing News and the Germans.

Sat1 the station that broadcast did some kind of interactive scoring as the fight went along and over 70% of their viewers scored the fight to Macklin!

I had it 116-112 to Sturm.

It pained me to give so many rounds to Sturm when Macklin was throwing twice as many punches, but you have to score the quality. I thought they landed about the same number of punches but Sturm hit him harder and cleaner.

 

i was being pessimistic when i watched it back- and i still gave it to Macklin by two- loosing by four is just crazy-

 

Macklin to get another shot at Sturm

Boxing: Matthew Macklin has been promised a rematch after his bid to wrest the WBA middleweight title away from Germany’s Felix Sturm ended in heroic failure in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne last night.
The Birmingham-based Irishman dropped a split decision after 12 fantastic rounds with two judges favouring Sturm by 116-112 and the other seeing it 115-113 for Macklin. Sturm’s sharper work in the second half of the contest swung the fight his way after a blazing start by the challenger which had given him a real chance of pulling off a major upset. Sturm is unbeaten in five years and was making his 10th defence in his second reign as WBA middleweight champion, on his own show in his home city. But if the odds were stacked against Macklin, who had himself not tasted defeat since 2006, he shrugged them off in an explosive start in which he slung hooks to Sturm’s body and made the champion cover up.
Far from blowing himself out, Macklin appeared to grow stronger as the early rounds progressed with Sturm relying on single, accurate shots to repel his opponent’s continuous advances. But Sturm finally got to grips with fight as it moved deeper into the second half, gaining control behind a stiff jab which had scarcely been in evidence in the opening stages.
Sturm enjoyed a big 10th round when a crashing uppercut followed by a right cross had Macklin temporarily in trouble, but the Irishman continued to fight back in pursuit of his dream. Sturm caught the eye again in the last, finishing the contest with a furious assault which left Macklin almost out on his feet. Although both men claimed victory at the end, the verdict went with Sturm.
