And now John Joe Nevin, the youngest of the Irish boxers, has won his first round fight as well. He beat Ourradi of Algeria at bantamweight. Nevin's style is not what you'd call brawling, he hits and moves and then moves some more. His second round opponent, the Mongolian, looks very good however.

So that's all five Irish boxers into the last 16.

Well I really got the Joyce fight very wrong, he fought magnificently and that is as surprising a turn around as you'll see in boxing with the way the other 3 bouts went. But he fight smartly to a great strategy and showed he's every bit as good as the 5 other guys representing Ireland.

A decent performance from the very young Nevin aswell, although he's really up against it in the next round. That Mongolian looks a few levels above him and it will take an even better performance than Joyce to pull that one off.
You can see why Uugan won Silver at the World Championships.

That article on Duddy seems very biased against him and seems a hate piece more than anything else.

Sorry guys, I've been away from my comp.
How many Irish fighters left at Beijing?

Don't get boxing coverage from the games in New Zealand.

5 they're all into the last 16 of their respective weight classes. With that said 2 of them did get a bye but the other 3 did the business in the first round.

    Kenny Egan 22-2 Julius Jackson
John Joe Joyce 9-5 Gyula Kate(who had beaten Joyce emphatically the 3 times they fought before)
John Joe Nevin 9-4 Abdelhalim Ourradi
    Paddy Barnes-Bye
    Darren Sutherland-Bye

No Shamrock - there were 5 in total and all still standing. With any luck we should get into the medals.
