Had a very interesting video interview with Michael Sweeney today where he made some interesting statements regarding his future. He was also looking really trim, he looks half the man he was against Tims, I wonder is he finally getting serious. Im heading back to my hotel and I'll post the interview.
The iaba have sent out a statement about the box off mess,a load of **** saying how great they are to have afew great boxers at each weight but saying they were right to box off as it is done to pick all major teams,it now says the officer board???said last friday the open competition will be used to ASSIST pick the team and that after the competition the team will be picked and ratified a week later taking into account the open, the national championships ,international success'. Do they seriously think nobody can remember back as far as last friday when the statement was that the officer board would be picking the winners only. Fair play to the guys who didnt enter for sticking to their guns and you have to feel sorry for the lads that have trained hard and are going to win this open competition and not be sent. How many times can these clowns change the goalposts as they see fit and think boxers and their coaches are just going to suck it up. (sorry cant link it on this computer)
Sweeney should have never been up at cruiser. Couldnt keep his workrate up that night despite having used strength and conditioning team for the first time. While its good for him to be back at 175 I still think he could, and should be at 168
A day to go so if there is anyone who wants to join in the fantasy football last chance to do so today. Heres the link http://fantasy.premierleague.com/ and the code is 291443-256043
Puca I do agree with nearly everything ur saying, and i've criticised the thing myself on numerous occasions, but i really think it's very difficult for whoever has to pick the team. I know you say they should stick with one route for team-picking and not change it but i remember ppl here complaining bout mcmonigle when he wasn't doin well internationally, yet he still won the seniors. A lot of the same ppl were saying only the senior champions should go to the euros/worlds. You can't just make an exception to the rule for one weight class. Also, whatever way you look at it, ken egan has done loads in the last couple years to help progress the image of irish amateur boxing. he certainly deserved another shot, regardless of what weight it was at. The real losers are going to be the boxoff winners who wil have been under false illusions. There is definitely a lot of contradictions in the IABA's system but I way prefer it the way it is to back in say 2000-2004 when very few irish boxers put up any real challenge at international level. There is going to be half a dozen (my guess) irish amateur boxers sitting at home watching the 2012 olympics who could very well have medalled themselves
I totally agree with you, they are a bunch of idiots and really they need to get their act together. The standard of Irish amateurs boxers is absolutely world class but they are let down by these imbeciles who somehow have fell into a position of power in the administration of the sport.
