    If you have any influence over Martin Rogan[and I get the impression you do], you should ask the big man to smoke the peace pipe with Hennessy so to attain an 8rder on this undercard. The interest is this contest [Fury/Rogan] is starting to gather momentum here in Belfast, so the two of them on the same promotion will further add to this interest. And maybe by November the two of them can share a ring for real.

    I think he has a good chance. Witter is shot, he's dangerous early on but runs out of ideas once you pressure him. I can see Haughian winning this one on points.

    There's me thinking Carson was from Dublin:nono

    Anybody know if Gary Sweeney ever fought Joe Ward? I think Sweeney boxed at 91kg when ward entered at 81kg in any tournie. But still they may ave fought over the years. Can anyone enlighten me?

    When you consider how close Metcalfe, Forde, and Bates were against probable winners and that McDonagh got the top two pre-medal stage(and beat the Russian, the only one to do so yet) it looks like we will be going strong for a few more years yet.
    Can't remember Sweeney fighting Ward except in an exhibition in Moate last year but Anthony Coyle gave Ward a year and ran him to 9-8 in the Cadets a few years ago. He also had a few wars with Conroy, Sweeney and others, Sweeney edged out Morissey 5-4 in this years championships.
    Expect O'Reilly to go on to the finals from here and Broadhurst, Fitz and Sweeney have reasonable hopes, say one from three and Morissey is up against the odds but that won't bother him.

    I know this is all positive stuff Matt, but i've one question which might upset the tone: Any idea why Dean Walsh didn't appeal the decision of his omission from the squad? Also, how would you compare him with joe fitz?

    Fitz beat Walsh by, I think, 2 points this year,so he wasn't ever getting in. BTW I think Christy Joyce could have won here too or Coyle so we have some talent pool.
