Well 2 points aint a lot Matt, and considering they were supposed to box-off until Walsh was thrown off the team I wouldn't say he wasn't ever getting in. Im surprised that Walsh's camp didn't go the same route as O'Reilly's.

Even if Walsh did lose to fitz this year, a few months is a long time - as O'reilly has shown. The portlaoise man lost to Forde in the open youths back in jan/feb. In the quarters of the same tournament Reilly beat a 16 year old by only a point. And this was all in the weight below his current weight

Therefore, there's nothing to say walsh wouldn't have beaten fitz in a box-off in august; if we're going by past results of course. Form is a different story altogether and my guess is that walsh must not have been in great form for his club not to appeal the decision:think

And more selection headaches! Nice figures all the same. How many of the current youths are from travelling stock Matt do you know?

    Ardy,

I'm flattered that you think I have any influence over anyone, but I'm afraid I don't. In fact, I'd say you're far more influential than I. Ffs, you started the best thread in the history of the Internet, in my opinion. I just share a surname with the big fella.

I agree that it would be a massive fight were it to come off, and I can't say that I know what the iron man's trying to achieve, especially if he's not fighting pulev, as has been reported. Slap made some great points yesterday about his self-management style. I dont think he's afraid of anyone, especially a light-punching heavyweight like Fury, whom I like a great deal.

At the end of the day, I'd like to see an Irish heavyweight make some noise before I die. Sorry I'm not more connected.

Maybe he was compromised been Billy's nephew, I don't know.
I don't think having box-off after box-off is a good idea, if national finals are followed by the cadets, then the cadets are effectively box-offs. We do need to ensure that the judging is top class at these events though. It's tough on some very good boxers but it also hones the competitive instinct.
Gary Sweeney is a brother of the "Storm" and a cousin of Conroy, but I don't know the background of the others.

Sorry about the misunderstaning, I thought you were related to Martin [Martin has hundreds of relatives floating about up here in Belfast, thought you were one of them].

Talking about wanting to see a Irish heavyweight champion before you die. We have Joe Ward, a 17yr old who is getting bigger and bigger and talent to burn. I expect this lad to fight as a heavyweight in the pro ranks. If this young lad can stay focused, we will witness great things from him.

Brick Fists ready to demolish Kiko in Belfast

Belfast super-bantamweight Carl ‘Brick Fists’ Frampton is looking forward to September 10 with great anticipation, as he readies for a tough EBU title fight against Kiko Martinez, the man who demolished Bernard Dunne so comprehensively on that fateful night at The Point in 2007. Irish Heavyweight Scene : Dreaming of our Fab Four

The Irish boxing revolution continues this week with mouth-watering fights being mooted by the bucket-load. As boxing fans worth their salt will know, the heavyweight division at world level is in a very sad state. The Klitschko brothers are very impressive at what they do, but their Eastern European, jab and defend, style which has ruled the scene for almost 5 years has left Heavyweight fans feeling redundant. Cool Fury leaves raging Rogan in the shade

Tyson Fury swaggered into the King’s Hall complex akin to John Wayne and then dealt with the slings and arrows of Martin Rogan with calm authority and charisma. British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Fury, clad in his best ‘Quiet Man’ garb yesterday, will return to the ring on September 17 at the King’s Hall, following on from his victory over Dereck Chisora at Wembley Arena but he is still waiting for an opponent to be named. Irish fighters guaranteed bronze of Euro Youths

Stephen Broadhurst, Jack Morrissey, Joe Fitzpatrick, Michael O'Reilly and Gary Sweeney are through to the last-four and guaranteed Ireland at least bronze medals at the European Youth Championships at the Citywest Convention Centre. But team captain Michael McDonagh, Kieran Forde and Evan Metcalfe bowed out of the tournament following last-eight reversals this afternoon and evening. Read more HERE.
