I'm not saying it's an issue - I'd imagine it doesn't matter unless you're very, very political. I'm just saying there's no choice involved for amateurs, and it's amateurs who represent nations. Pro's its just a side issue (if any at all - I doubt they care).
I said that to him on Twitter last year or so.. he just said he can only fight who's infront of him. I dont think he gives a bollox about steppin up, I think he's just happy sayin he's unbeaten.
I think on Boxrec, the flag represents who the fighter holds a licence with or where they're based. Dean Byrne has a Union Jack beside his and when he was in L.A. he has the American flag.

most catholics in the north travel under irish passports.... especially now tat its only a matter of walking into your local post office 2 get an application 4 an irish passport:good
I worked with protestant man from Tyrone in London , who hated the politics in the north and that's why he left. He had an catholic girlfriend and he said one think he loved about England or Britain was that no matter what religion you were, they only thought of you as a PADDY end of. Were all "PADDY'S OVER HERE KID" they were his words.
For the Olympics specifically? For boxing it's neither here nor there because you make your own choice. But all island = Ireland and there's no choice in the matter, the only thing that would be better with NI associations is that you could have a choice if you wanted to. What's annoying at the moment is that in events like the Olympics NI is completely shafted - some athletes go to GB (who don't even seem to recognise NI) others to ROI depending on the association; for example, two of our rowers won silver / bronze for GB but it was hardly reported in the media.
What do you mean with making your own choice in boxing? Like you said yourself earlier, boxers from the North don't have a choice? Also, I don't know many Northern Protestants (assuming you are one), so always wondered to what extent you consider yourselves Irish/Northern Irish/British or a mixture of those three?
Yeah that's what I'm saying. It's not a big deal it's just a thought really because at the moment NI is a bit in limbo. As for identity, British nationally, Northern Irish / Ulster ethnicity. Bit like when the English say British / English I suppose.
And is that what most of you would consider yourselves? Would many consider themselves in any way Irish?
