Quigley beat O'Neill yesterday on countback.

 

Really enjoyed the Frampton show last night I'm starting to get flashbacks of those great nights that were had in the point and O2 with Dunne. The atmosphere wasn't the same as the O2 when Dunne beat Cordoba but it's heading towards that he's only going to draw bigger crowds if he keeps winning I can see his fights having that fire/electricity that Barry's fights had back in the day....

Super night last night. It was a good card but probably too big if anything.

I just watched the fight back and I was very impressed. Frampton got hit cleanly a bit more on the inside than I thought. That's no bad thing though. The flaws defensively can be ironed out easily enough in training. But he's now shown he's got a good chin and a good temperament. Also fighting at that tempo showed he is capable of it and he has good stamina. I thought more body punching would have softened up Martinez earlier but it was a great job.

Lee was pretty lazy IMO. He could have done as he liked but he was happy enough to coast and smile away to himself all night. I don't like Booth as a trainer and I think it could be a mistake hooking up with him. It was a nothing performance against an average, at best, fighter.

Great night though. IBF in May would be good. Romero v Lopez for the title must be soon enough? I doubt they could say no to traveling to defend the title

By the way Ardy I only got that text this morning. My battery went dead in my phone so I headed back to the hotel. I didn't want to get lost wandering around that part of town!

 

Classy stuff- at times from Frampton. Heard a lot of boys saying he got caught a few times too easily, but its boxing, it happens. Was never really caught with anything clean and was clever enough to move away or respond when Kiko did land anything decent. Didn't see the stoppage coming and its always very promising to see a clean KO when the fight is going into the later rounds.

Thought Selby stole the show. Far too big and powerful for Lindsay, who did well to hear the bell. Some big body shots landed and I thought Lindsay was going to go in the 10th, so fair play to him for hanging on in there. Selby wants to defend his title one more time, to keep Lonsdale belt outright. Hopefully Lindsay could fight for it when it becomes vacant.

Good for Conlan to finally get back in the ring and get some rounds in the bank. Seems to be developing his power as well. Get him in with Butler, May 11th in Belfast.

Lee was very average. Even the most ardent Lee fan would have to admit that. Fitz landed too easily and made it a lot more competitive than it should have been. Sounds like Barker-Lee on May 11th on Frampton card or 25th on Froch card

 

Also I should add that while I've seen the ladies glammed up at boxing events last night took the biscuit. I think some of them thought it was Halloween :shock: Great craic all the same

 

Atmosphere came across as electric on the telly. Great to see Belfast look good on a big stage. First of many wild nights with the jackal, I hope.

Delighted for Frampton, well done and he seems to be a classy guy as well.

 

Great showing by Conlan too, for a guy out of action, injured and generally messed about for over a year, he put in a solid shift. Robinson is no slouch and Jamie dropped him in the second round with a double left hook (one to body and one to head) but then had to suck it up in the middle rounds when Robinson came on strong.

That was all before Conlan broke him in half with a body shot after wobbling him with a similar shot just seconds earlier. Hopefully this will be the springboard to further fights and no more frustrating inactivity.

P.S. Great respect to Lindsay for hanging in with Selby and continuing to throw back. Selby had filled out after the weigh-in into a beast and landed some hefty shots, particularly to Lindsay's washboard body. Martin took more than was required and deserves credit for sticking in there to the end where lesser fighter would have folded.

 

Whats this I hear about a rake of our best amateurs pulling out of the nationals for a variety of reasons?

And how will it effect selection for the upcoming European and world amateur championships? I know we usually pick the winners of the nationals to send on the team, but you surely cant ignore the talent that wont be entering this year for places at major tournaments?
