Three wins from three for the Irish lads in action tonight. All three won 50-45 as well, very impressive

All so impressive, especially Nevin, he is such class. why does he not get the credit he deserves? By such a margin our best ever amature. And Ward I like a lightweight with Ali like hand speed and balance.

I think's it's OK, it's all about promotion and it will add to the viewing spectacle. As for the health issues there are arguments on both sides, I'm no medical expert but I feel that without the guard the target actually gets smaller and also I expect refs to step in quicker so in fact it might be safer. I would worry about kd's where the back of the head hits the canvas.

Why do you say that without the head guard the target gets smaller Matt?

A big issue without headgear is cuts coming into play. A bad cut in the first round of the Olympics could put an end to a fighters competition: the headgear largely protects against that.

Unsure overall about how I feel about the changing system. There are pros (no puns) and cons

The headgear adds an inch, inch and a half around the side, front and back so a punch that would have flown harmlessly by, makes contact and jars the brain.

Just home from Castlebar and the Taylor show, Katie superb as always . Well done to Moylette too and he said he's boxing in the Euros-any confirmation that he is in and Ross definetly out

Surely it would be a bit more dangerous? Is kids at 11 supposed to box without headguards or is this for seniors only?
