When you have very hyped prospect like the Lee the opinions are going to be extreme. In no way did that bum expose any flaws of Lee and at the same time Lee's name should not be mentioned in the same breath as Pavlik. If he were to get a shot at the Duddy Pavlik winner I would be outraged. It would represent everyhting wrong with the sport. At the end of the day the fight proved nothing except it supported my belief that Magee is the worst commentator ever.
ML, as much as I respect your point of view, when they were exchanging the inside, he was open to counters. He needs to roll more on the inside, he can be a bit static. Magee is an old man, he thinks he is commentating to an ignorant irish audience[which would have approved of him], but he is not, he has a critical audience like you lot.
Ardy I think you may be right Lee's height can be both an advantage and disadvantage. It is pretty rare to a find a taller fighter who has the abilty to fight in a phone booth. As for Magee you are exactly right, his job is to promote the irish fighters as the next Ray Robinson, which completely eliminates his credibility. They show the Duddy fights that he called in Ireland on the Madison Square Garden network on tape delay and the bias he showed for Duddy almost make it unwatchable. Ardy, nationality aside what would be your reaction if Lee was awarded a title shot against Pavlik/Duddy?
Lee won with ease, you're not wrong! But the guy was a bum! I thought Lee could do with more rythym and continuity. Thats what was exposed in this one. Fighting out long is where he's comfortable at, and he's very good. However, once somebody can close the gap and get in his face, he may struggle, unless he learns to punch short. I think he's vunerable!!
I dont believe Duddy or Lee have done enought to warrant a crack at Pavlik, but I will support them to the hilt, in their pursuit of the title.
Yeah, I believe Duddy's skills are under rated as well. When he fights Pavlik, Pavlik could be in for a big surprise.
Being true American, I'm a melting pot but the 2 largest contributotrs are Italian and Irish:yep In the name of ANY ANCESTRAL HERITAGE, my Irish portion is 100% behind Paul McCloskey. I just found the 140 sleeper candidate who could likely beat Torres or Holt real soon. Take a step or 2 there and Challenge a Hatton/Witter/Malignaggi:yep This guy is 28 and almost ready to blow up. Just another couple fights and a step up by the end of 2008 or early 09. The man can BOX his ass off:good he's only 15 -0 but i see him being able to beat some NAMES at 40 soon enough I hope he ****ing stays dedicated, I really like what i saw this evening:deal
I can guarantee that McCloskey is committed to his trade. One or trwo fights from now I hope he can challenge for the European title. Maybe the world next. It's good to hear that your impressed.
2 or 3 fights and Torres/Holt are reasonable options. Its time to build the opp and position him to challenge the real 140 Champ:good As for him Trading? While his oponnemt is trading? He's using D. While they try to reset? He's firing back with solid, accurate, shots:yep 3rd times a Charm for me, like what I C, and believe he will rise
Hello Ardy!! Yes sir, Go Plumbers!!! (Poor *******s) I did enjoy the fight as well as getting to see McCloskey again, although I was excited about Macklin. Too bad. I do wish however Lee's opponent hadn't been such a runner and give Lee more of a chance to showcase his talent. Still good show though.
Lee is awkward as a southpaw can be, and he is great at range. Duddy would cut easy if he stayed in Lee's game, but has the potential to come under punches and work his way inside. Duddy has a good ko record as well which suggests he could be a force at his own game. All makes for an interesting matchup....with Duddy right in the fight!!
At some stage, a match-up between Duddy/Lee is inevitable. We all know the odds are stacked heavily against Duddy defeating Pavlik [although if John can explode a few hooks on Pavliks chin, then who knows], and if Duddy loses against Pavlik then Duddy/Lee is liable to happen, before Lee challenges Pavlik. Although I dont believe a Lee or Pavlik victory over Duddy is the formality that some pundits will think it will be.
