People have short memories. Mine is not perfect either but as I recall we have had a similar situation before - think of the case of the last great Irish middle - Steve Collins.
As I recall he enjoyed an Indian-summer towards the end of his career. As I recall prior to this he lost 3 top level fights in his 20's (Mike McCallum, Reggie Johnson, Sumbu Kalambay).
Now in a strange parallel, Mack has failed 3 times at the highest level too (Felix, Sergio, GGG).
Maybe, hopefully like Steve before him it can come good for him yet. He deserves it. :good

 

I posted this prviously in the British forum and at the risk of repeating myself it sums up how I feel:
Hopefully things go Macks way this time. He has always been the "nearly man" and - IMO - has been badly under-appreciated by British and Irish fans. For some reason or combination of reasons he never got the support he deserves IMO. In many ways he was overlooked in favour of IMO - inferior domestic contemporaries. Personally I certainly always rated him ahead of Murray and well ahead of Lee and Barker.
He gives 110% and has been in far better fights and turned in far better performances than his domestic contemporaries, sadly without getting the results in terms of titles and Ws in the Win Column. Heres hoping that natural justice prevails and he gets a break this time against Geale, a fighter who is the polar opposite in terms of squeezing every bit of success out of his limited skills. If Macklin is a chronic under-achiever, then Geale must be one of the greatest over-achievers ever.

 

I have to say I agree with you Paddy.
Macklin-Lee is 50/50.
There is a 50% chance Matt wins by ko and 50% chance he wins on points.

Well, ok Fra, but its only 10 rounds and Geale isnt the most destructive puncher is he? Hopefully Mack isnt so washed up that he cant manage 10 rounds with a light puncher. Geale wont have huge height and reach advantages like his last opponent, he wont have a great jab to keep Mack off, and he wont have a killer punch. Geale likes to engage, which should suit Matt. All in all this has to be as good an opportunity as any for Matt at this stage IMO.

 

Been hearing that LSC is talking about a summer showdown with Quigg. Can anyone confirm (or preferbly deny) this?

I had raised the possibility of Carl getting gazumped by Quigg (as previously happened with Kiko) - it looks like it might be happening. :-( :dead

 

Aye, it's true Len LSC wants the Quigg fight first. I think he knows Frampton will bust him up, so he wants another payday before him.

Frampton can have another fight in the meantime or try offering Kiko another deal for what it's worth or dare I say it go for the Lineal title and bring Rigo over to Belfast.

 

Thanks Ryan. Whatever about "knowing Carl will bust him up" being the reason for his choosing Quigg at this point, he has (rather bizarrely) said straight out that Carl is the better of the two.

(Normal practice being to 'big up' the guy you ARE fighting, not the guy you are NOT fighting!)

Aye, LSC has said it himself Frampton is a tougher fight than Quigg which tells you all you need to know. IMO Santa Cruz and his people are looking at Quigg as a safer fight and Frampton is too high risk low reward for them?
