Amazing flashback innit?

Right down to what went before the ko. JJ Snr was past his best, had serious eyesight problems and was all at sea in that fight against Herrol. Herrol only had to stay on his feet to win.

(Of course Herrol and JJ were a different level to Andy and JJ jnr.)

Oh come on! We all know he wasnt aiming at the ref ffs. Every punch is "intentional", of course we all know that. But look at what went before. It was against the run of play.

There was Andy, struggling helplessly, trapped on the ropes, caught square, getting bullied, his legs splayed like a newborn baby giraffe (look at the overhead shot) - then he breaks free - and what does he do - he runs/stumbles/staggers into a corner ffs! Yes a corner, believe it or not - where he resumes getting caught square!

Fortunately for him JJ was just a crude novice with power.
Yet Ive seen people say Andy walked JJ onto that punch! JJ walked himself onto it.

Also Andy threw 2 identical right hooks when he was trapped on the ropes midway between ring posts. Both missed. They were no better or no worse than the one that ended it.
Andy is incredibly brave and tough and very likeable but he is just not good enough. He should get out now, before he comes to serious harm.

 

ur full of it... so it was lucky because it landed whereas it hadnt landed beforeatsch ... the fact he was lining jackson up for the same punch earlier but missed tells you it wasnt a lucky punch:good

I never said it was lucky. The commentators on Russian TV did. Not me, ok?

He wasnt 'lining up' JJ for anything either - you can forget that. He was cluelessly engaging in a wild shootout when a bit of boxing savvy was needed.

Actually that punch could turn out to be very unlucky for Lee. The win will make him box on, and take on more dangerus opponents, take more punishment that he doesnt need. It would have been better if the fight had followed the normal course and he lost there and called it a day.

Andy is too brave for his own good, too tough for his own good. But he just isnt good enough. He is a very nice guy but he needs to quit the ring today.

 

r u going 2 employ him:think... as hes now in the position 2 earn another considerable payday off HBO... dont b worrying about him hes a big boy and knows the risks... but i suppose the dole queue is where u want or laying tarmac with his relatives... the end of the day he came from behind and bingoed his opponent ... hes not the first to be in that position... it happens all the time in boxing.. the andy lee freight train moves on... all aboard:welcome :good

 

I'd be delighted to employ him. He is a top class guy. He just isn't a top class boxer. The problem is if he continues boxing he might not be able to tie his own shoelaces when he is older. Will all his fans on here look after him when that happens?

When the nature of the sport is to render your opponent unconscious, there is no such thing as a "lucky punch".

 

That was some knock out by Lee, he was trying to take Jackson's head off from the first, it was never going to the cards - great win on his CV and hopefully he gets another title shot.

if you look at the slow motion replay it was such a well executed shot...all his body weight behind it. power came from hips..punch didnt travel far.....laugh at me if you want but that was a typical kind of punch sugar ray robinson threw when in trouble like that

 

I agree the punch itself wasn't lucky. It was a deadly shot.

But Andy WAS lucky that he was in there with a clueless crude stiff upright novice who obligingly walked face first onto it. If Andy had been in there with a guy with any bit of savvy he would have been well beaten, and today we would all be wishing him well in his retirement.

Another thing:
When Andy was trapped on the ropes before he stumbled into the corner where he finished it he threw 3 similar right hooks. No different from the one that ended it. All missed.
When your best punch is missing 3out of 4 times at point blank range, against a very hittable opponent, you have a problem.

 

You are right there. Andy was loading up on every shot. And he was losing every round doing it. He should have been boxing JJ, not getting caught up in a wild shoot out with a crude but powerful guy like JJ.

 

Should he?

The shoot-out tactic ended with him KO-ing the guy in 5 rounds.

Sounds like a solid tactic

 

He had to throw hard shots from the first to try and keep Jackson at bay, who was stalking him from the off. There was nothing lucky about it, he stretched out a a very good and hard hitting opponent that many were tipping to KO Lee.
