JJJ lost on a split unfortunately

 

Great day yesterday with 3 Irish guaranteeing medals. 3 boxers in action today. Young Middleweight Michael O'Reilly first up at 2:30PM against Georgian Gocha Badurashvili.

Dean Walsh is up at 4:45PM against 2013 European Silver medalist Dmitri Galagot of Moldova in the Light Welterweight division. He also holds a win over Ross Hickey. Very tough fight.

And finally in the last bout of the evening (6PM), Super-Heavy Dean Gardiner takes on Italy's Guido Vianello. Hopefully a winnable fight for Dean, Vianelli was defeated by Hughie Fury in the first round of the 2012 World Youths and has previously lost to Irish boxer Thomas Conroy in a youth international match.

Also, does anyone know why boxers from Georgia and Moldova (not in the EU) are competing in this tournament? I can understand Turkey competing as they have applied to join and have always competed, but Georgia and Moldova is just odd. Only answer I can think of is that they are both relatively close to Bulgaria and therefore were asked to send teams (Moldova 9 man, Georgia 7 man) just to flesh out the numbers.

 

Any word on Nevins comeback?

Not sure id call it a return i mean he has only thrown a jab as a pro,(wasnt even an especially good jab) :yep

Hughie Myers loses unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28). From I could make out it was a close fight but his opponent was a bit busier.

 

O'Reilly wins tough fight on a split decision. The scoring in this was very strange two judges went 29-28 to O'Reilly whilst the third had it for the hungarian 30-26! He scored the first to the hungarian 10-8 which i thought was a O'Reilly round. The judge was a Slovakian which has a lot of ethnic Hungarians. Maybe that explains it.

 

O'reily seems like a serious replacement for quigley already , gave fowler a very hard fight and was very unlucky not to lose

How's DOJ doing ?

 

Up against a Lituanian at around 4.30pm i think. O'Neill up a bit later than that against france.
