hello lads, I just wanted to ask you do any of you know the reason why andrew murrays career seems to have ground to a halt? Also duddy it seems a real shame that he is not making it big as he really has huge marketing potential. I know some of you here have some inside knowledge. Brian Peters while having done wonders for Irish boxing dosent seem to be sustaining the level of hype that there was here about boxing recently. How many people in Ireland even knew that mcloskey was either fighting for or had won a british title? What im getting at is , is there any way of keeping pro boxing at the forefront of Irish sport? Now I know that the last few weeks has been great for Irish boxing but I hate to see great potential not getting what they deserve.
As far as I know mcbride last fought golota and lost. I havent really seen much of him but what I have seen much of him but what I have has been dissapointing. I dont know his future plans but id say hes retired. Others here will probably have more information.
Who was he?McCauley against Fidel Bassa in `87,fight of that year,McCauley fighting a ****in good champion with only 14 fights at the time.
I think Peters was hoping to match Murray against ***an, but ***an is now injured and will be out for the next year.Murray is still Irish champion so there could be fights arranged there for him. I think your talking about Dave boy McAuley, who went on to become the IBF champ. He made several successful defences before losing it to Blanco. McAuley now commentates for RTE [the national TV broadcaster in Ireland].
Dave McAuley is up there as one of the greatest Irish boxers of all time IMO. I think he had 23-24 fights and around 11 of those were for titles. Even in defeat he did well against world class opponents. Just got his career boxset on DVD. Haven't watched it yet but I'm looking forward to going through it over xmas
Welcome back Podge CHRISTMAS ******* FOR DUNNE http://brianpeterspromotions.com/site/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=58&Itemid=31 MALONEY HITS OUT AT PETERS http://www.irishnews.com/articles/597/556/2008/12/20/605915_367132986226Maloneyhi.html
As its christmas I decided to get the radio show done a bit early this month. So the January edition is now online at irish-boxing.com Interviews with Andy Lee, Darren Sutherland, Paulie Hyland, Rendall Munroe, Jim Rock and Oisin ***an. Let me know what you think.
As always excellent Cormac. Im just thinking when I was listening to young Hyland, this year is going to be huge, with at least four Irishmen fighting for the European title. All Hyland has to do is to keep on winning, and Im sure he will get his fight against Napa. Martin Rogan against Skelton is practically a done deal for around April in Belfast. I hear Mick Hennessay is chasing down a European title contest for Brian Magee. Mick is going to a European convention next month, where he expects the supermiddle title to be declared vacant. And Hennessay has Junior Witter lined up for a Euro challenge, which he should win. With Hennessay connections with Peters, a fight between Witters and McCloskey could be way easy to make.Alls good man, alls good.:deal
