    Good question fra. My own personal "magical moment or moments" must be the success of our amateurs. Medals at all the major tournaments this year cheered me up no end. Egan of course being the pinnacle of that success. But amateur boxing has to change as its become less of a spectator sport in recent years. Some have likened it to fencing with gloves.The old 3x3 rds are coming back and I hope one day they will abandon the headguards and that dreadful point scoring system.

    On the professsional scene the ever increasing amount of promotions in the country has been incouraging along with the amount of boxers turning pro. In the north of the country there was unfortunately only two promotions[one in Letterkenny and one in Belfast]. But with the revamped Ulster Hall reopening next year I fully expect several promotions in Belfast by the end of 2009. The British promoters have turned their attentions our way due to the success of our fighters and subsequently Hayemaker, Maloney and Warren have all promised promotions here next year.Another British promoter Mick Hennessy has formed an alliance with our very own Brian Peters, so expect promotions in that direction also.There is so much more I could write here particularly about individual boxers, but it would take forever. But one potentially "great" contest has been made already for next year and that is of course Martin Lindsay and Paul Appleby for the British featherweight title. This contest will take place at the Ulster Hall on March 7th, and has already captured the imagination of the Belfast fight fans.All in all I fully expect a busy and exciting year for Irish boxing in 2009.

    Good post Ardy, :good My best moment has gotta be Lee/Gibbs in Limerick.Gibbs came to win but was bettered by a determined Lee. The 10th round was special.:deal

    I agree Marty best fight i've seen in Ireland for a long time hope Andy can build on it.
    I heard reports he was going to box on the mc loughlins St Paddys day card in NY the rematch with Vera is being looked for also heard the hylands were on that card as well anyone got any info on this.May well be worth a trip over.

    It was a good piece of tv. I thought at one stage I recognized your voice Cormac, although you were out of shot of the camera, I thought I heard you interviewing Peters.:huh

    Were you working for the then bbc Cormac????.Also I got the impression in that docu that Peters was finding it increasingly harder to sell out the Point, even before Bernards defeat.:think

    Yeah it seems Dunne cant sell out alone these days.Peters has to come up with better undercard fighters/co features to sell the tickets.Lee,mcCloskey,Macklin or in the west he needs the local lads Sweeny,coyle to fill Breaffy House which is not big...Any ideas why that is guys Lee can sell Limerick on his own,Mc Closkey and Duddy will sell an northern venue on their own.Is it just that Dunnes style isnt that exciting or something bigger?
