I think mccloskey, duddy and lee are pretty much interchangeable. Mccloskey really showed his quality when on short notice he made lyne's (a fringe world level contender) retire on his stool. Lee dominated and stopped gibb's in impressive fashion.

yeah i was hoping this show was going to be on television but maybe brian peter's will hire a cameraman to record it and put it up on his youtube channel.

 

Alright lads got some bad news, the card in Youghal is off, two of the guys couldn't get visa's Kieran Joyce rang me last night, he was gutted he's been organising it for about 6 months.

 

**** man that is bad...as i know how much you were looking forward to it...a lot of promoters use that excuse about the visas when its really ticket sales are the problem

 

you could be right hitman but i heard there was supposed to be a good crowd going. he said he's going to try and get it going again around March or April so we'll see

 

its hard for these small hall promoters to break even..they need to have at least a full house and good sponsorship...these cubans must be getting restless...they have not boxed in months...i would say if things dont change soon...the cubans might leave ireland and go to america or germany

 

I would say especialy Perez could be getting restless,he beginning to gather a bit of a name for himself,i was reading about him as a tip for next year on a bbc sports website.not many fighters with only 6 fights who have only fought as pro in ireland would get that mention.

 

Yes this is a depressing way to start 2009 hopefully it is reschelduled asap. I was really looking foward to this show.

Excellent news, gentlemen.

Gary Hyde has stepped in to rescue the Cork show. It will be on in the Rochestown Park Hotel (subject to agreement) in Cork instead on the same date, January 16, and will feature the three Cubans.

Luis Garcia and Alexei Acosta will face the same opposition, while it looks like Mike Perez will face Tomasz Bonin. Expect a couple of more Irish names to be added.

It will be a dinner show with a four-course meal and disco after. A table costs €1000, with ten per table.

Hyde is expecting to take a severe financial hit at such short notice but he reasoned that he has his three lads in peak condition, raring to go after being over for weeks with Glenn McCrory. So he is taking a gamble financially to keep the lads busy.

I'm going to try and flog a table myself to my buddies, 'cos I admire Hyde's cajones in taking things over. If we could get ten lads here to take a table, it would make a huge difference.
