the thing i hate about the olympics is austrailia basically getting to send a full team everytime due to easy qualification. And european boxers having to break their backs to qualify and guys that are even in the top 3 in the world not making it to the olympics, then you get 5-6 abysmal african and asian boxers that get to qualify, its ridiculous olmypic qualification should be worldwide not done by continents. I say this because if a boxer goes pro being an olympian makes him more money from the get go, letting terrible boxers into the olympics weakens the field and they aren't deserving of their place. Im kinda half hoping Steven Donnelly turns pro instead of going to the olympics. He'd make a far better pro (potentially world class) than an amateur. He's great to watch and has some skills to.
I know he does for sure, but id like to see him do it a year earlier. I think part of the reason he fought in the WSB is because he wanted to attract pro promoters, which im sure he did, if they arent completely blind. Oh and in other news Paddy Barnes said he hates the WSB. Come on Paddy, tell us what you really think. Enough skirting around the issue

I've been a big fan of O'Reilly but Quigley was a better amateur, by some distance. Now as a fighter O'Reilly may best him, but not as an amateur boxer. Not now, not ever...
Yeah but O'Reilly is only 20 and looks better than Quigley was at his age? Quigley wasn't able to beat Darren O'Neill at his age and O'Reilly gave O'Neill a bit of a hiding, even if it was an O'Neil who is maybe a bit past his prime. O'Reilly will only get better, looking forward to seeing where he is in a couple of years.
Exactly BJ! I find it hard to see how one can be so sure of Quigley being a better amateur than Reilly. It took Quigley years to beat O'Neill and when he finally did it was on countback. 12 months later O'Reilly dismantled the same opponent!
cant agree with that. One country should only be allowed a maximum of one boxer at each weight. Just to give everyone else a chance.
He handled the very tall Broadhurst with ease in this year's final. He also beat a relatively tall Darren O'Neill handily in last year's decider. Apparently he also ran Anthony Fowler VERY close in the Chemistry cup last year (with Fowler being a senior world bronze medalist at the time and Reilly competing in one of his first senior internationals). When on his game, I think Reilly will be very hard to beat!
Fair point about O'Neill's dip in form. Many will argue that 12 months later Quigley would also have destroyed O'Neill. That would give a fairer comparison. I just think it's madness to say so conclusively that Quigley was a better amateur "by some distance" (I know it wasn't you that made the claim though). To summarise my opinion: the sky is the limit for O'Reilly!!
