This wildly exciting slugfest must rank has of the most exciting fights I have ever witnessed involving an Irish boxer. What the contest lacked in finesse, it made up for in excitement as the two boxers went toe to toe for most of the entire fight. As I watched the fight with a couple of others the volume of sound we were making was getting higher and higher. This was one night a certain Martin Rogan from Clonard, west Belfast wouldn't be denied. A truely great night for Irish boxing.
Perez and Garcia both won 8 round decisions according to boxrec.Acostas result not up but he appeared to have the easiest opponent of the trio so heres hoping. I'd say Gary Hyde is over the moon that he got two guys to go the eight rounds will the cubans.Just what they needed ,a good run out. What a weekend :happy:happy:happy

I'm not so sure about that... they fought really shitty opponents. When they fight bums like this it's okay since it's still early in their career but they need to impress with KOs to get international exposure as real red hot prospects. It's ok to go the distance vs decent opponents and that would be good for them to gain some rounds, as you said. However, these opponents were not decent, a KO is prefered.

Alright lads, Just back from Newcastle, gonna type the report up soon. Garcia is on his way to world glory, barring unforseen circumstances. His footwork was something special, there is not many people blessed with such natural balance. Gbenga was a tough son of a gun, he wouldn't quit even when taking some vicious shots. I think Gladiator is being a little unfair - he was no bum and could hang with any of the top fellas in the division. Garcia is a little too sure of himself though, winding up bolo punches in the third round before the fight is won - a better opponent could catch him. Perez' opponent showed no ambition whatsoever. He ran, clenched, ran, and clenched some more. Mickey Joe had a frustrating night. Showed his class in spurts, but he learned a good lesson - he won't be KOing everyone in two rounds. Alexei smashed his opponent with a wicked body shot. 36 seconds. Myself and BigEars gave it the Billy Big Bollocks afterwards, arriving at the afterparty in Glenn McCrory's Merc and bouncing our ****-of-the-walk heads to the top of the queue. John Rooney, Martin Lindsay's manager/trainer, was with us - he's great company and has big plans for Martin, providing he beats Appleby. I'm hoping to do a good piece with him soon. Oh, and eighteen of the sweetest ring card girls dressed in skin tight catsuits bent their way into the ring a mere foot away from my smiling face. It was Arse-Palooza with me as the only guest. It's not a bad life, is it?
Does anyone know what Danny O'Connor's Irish connection actually is? Obviously there is one with a name like O'Connor, but all I've read is "Irish American", no one has said what the connection really is.
