I was so nervous tonight (and with Bohs playing the League Cup Final before) that I had a skinful. I managed to dull my nerves but not my senses. I spent 3 round screaming at Bernard to stay outside and jab. What I saw (and I admit it was in a half drunk state) was Bernard have a little bit of success on the outside then get crunched when Poonsawat got him inside. My worst fears of Bernard not 'making' Poonsawat beat him but rather giving the game away were realised. I'm in no way detracting from Poonsawats win but Bernard served it to him on a plate. And to make the same 'Kiko' mistakes was/is unforgiveable. That said, can someone, whenever they feel fit, tell me what happend in round 2. At the end of the round I saw Dunne in his corner gasping and heaving for air like he'd run a marathon. My Da, a half reasonable judge of what goes on in a fight, reckons Poonsawat caught Bernard with an uppercut on the short rib and ****ed him up. Anyway, these are not excuses. Bernard is my Irish boxing hero and I love him but he has shown he is not smart enough to execute a gameplan at world level. A little bit of me wonders did he fall in love with that 'extra power' that McGurn found for him. Because he was too willing to stand and trade mid ring. And also he's not good enough to get teed off on. Not many people at world level are but if you can't follow the gameplan (and stay outside like you are meant to) then getting teed off on is a very likely scenario. I hope he does great and I hope he comes back like he talked about in the ring after he lost. But he was bleeding from the mouth, his corner towel was coevered in blood and he needed lengthy medical treatment after 3 rounds. Again, no blame, but I wonder was he really fit for what he put his body through. I wondered about how McGurns regime would take its toll long term. And I gave the man praise for what he did for Bernard short term. I take nothing away from that but maybe Bernard went to the well too soon against an opponent too good. Maybe the very exacting McGurn regime, on a lad thats had 15 years of other regimes, was a bit too much. Not blaming McGurn but I was worried about this way back Also, to finish, apologies to Doug. I was very drunk when I met you squire and was less sociable than I should have been. I wasn't rude but I was buckled!!! So I apologise. I hope you enjoyed your night as best you could.
I hope you weren't that **** behind me in section F who was E'd out of it very early in the night and who was calling Tyson Fury both 'Bernard' and 'Matthew' at different times during the fight and when Dunne finally came on he decided to persist in saying the words 'jab the paki *******' over and over again. What a ****ing meatball..... Anyway, good luck to both Bernard and poonswat, and I have to say the 02 is a great venue and the atmosphere was brilliant all thngs considered...

As a matter of fact I was in the bar drinking off the pre-fight nerves and I only found out Fury had a sloppy(ish) win when Doug told me. Anyway, the texts I've got since the end of the fight are talking about Bernard going up to FW. Not hard to see why but I just think tonight may have been a career changer in the wrong way. I think this may have taken a lot away from him The loss to Martinez was a sloppy loss to a poor fighter and he knew it could be corrected. This was a sloppy loss at world level and I don't know where he goes next. Maybe he can get a world class FW over here on a purse bid and fight for a belt. Will Peters finance this. Probably not. If he could get a FW over could he stay out of range for 12 rounds. Probably not. Everyone he fights with a half of a punch is just going to load up on him from now on. If he fights EBU level he doesn't fill the Point/O2. If he goes to the states he is firmly classed as an 'opponent' rather than live threat and thats hardly worth his while. It took some shrewd moves from Peters to bring him back the last time and it will take a hell of a lot more to get him back on track this time.

Your words are gospel Bam Bam and I find it hard to disagreee...sadly:-( I wish only the best for Bernard though, he has genuinely given me more entertainment than most of the top fighters in the world combined over the last few years, and honestly i'm not even a big Dunne fan...
Poonsawat is a qty boxer. I have watched tapes of him.I knew Dunned would be on all fours.Why? because he has been down in Kiko, and Corbado.His chin is brittle.The form leading up to this fight indicated Dunne has a glass chin.Good boxer but he can't mess around with punchers of Poon's qty.I don't even reckon that poon is a massive puncher.But enough to get Dunne is trouble.If not in round 3 Poon would of caught him anytime. because the Thai has speed good handspeed.This usually means he can carry the same zip to his punches in the later rounds.He might even finish strong.
The power killed Dunne there I had him shading the first 2 rounds. Then all of a sudden he wanted a war with this lad. Crazy mistake but credit the Thai he came back firing bombs and Dunne couldn't take them. The hardest fight out there for Dunne to have in his defence but he does come back from this I hope he takes his time and isn't rushed back 2 wars this year that will take a lot out of you. Maybe a move up a weight and see how it goes there and decide what to do after that.
-------------------------------------------------------- Dunne took the mandatory boxer. Yes he has a glass chin and Lopez would put Dunne down too. I think more skilled boxers like Vasquez who aren't so much power punchers but skill based, suit Dunnes style. I think the Thai was just better at executing his game plan. We know the Thai has got power becuase he has an impressive ko record. I think looking on the bright side it's better to lose by tko early the go into the trenches for several rounds and eventually get ko'd. Also Dunne is still only 30 right so another 2 years to try something if he wants. Amir Khan has a similar situation he has a glass chin and needs to compensate it with speed and skill. Caballero may have the beating of Dunne also but there are a lot of big names Dunne could still fight and have a good chance.

So we have Podge, Paddy and Doug far right, who's the forth fella, I'm guessing Ardy? Bad night all round for me, Couldn't make it up and then Poonsawat goes and sparks Bernard. All our fears realised and the knockdowns were horrible to watch, Hope Bernard can come back from this!
