It could very well be a long, long while before we see a world title there again.
Macklin is about to arrive on the world scene but lets not forget he's english lads. One of the first things he said after the Asikainen win was that it was great Hatton was able to get him the fight 'here at home in england'. So I'd say its fair to assume he will fight for his titles there.

Lee and Duddy are nowhere near world class yet. Lee has been pretty poor for the last 3 fights (or more) and Duddy is just a face-first in defence style brawler. I'm not saying its unthinkable that they could get a world title fight but Duddy boxes out of america so I'd say if he does get one it will be there.
There is a possibility that Peters may take on Lee as his next 'big project' since Dunne has slipped now. Still don't think he's good enough though and he really does need some serious work in defence

McCloskey isn't any kind of name over here and would take a lot of building up to get to the stage where he could fill the place. He looks our most genuine world level possibility (IMO) at the minute but I think if he did get a title shot the Kings Hall or the Odyssey would be the place for him to fight out of.

As for the rest, while there are some good entertaining boxers, lets be honest none of them are anywhere near world level. Haughian, Murray and the Hylands are all euro level at the absolute best.

Statement released that Bernard is physically fine and was let out of Beaumount with a clean bill of health and that he'll be back etc...

Well when there was talk of poor ticket sales (and to be positive the place was packed out last night in the end) I couldn't believe that people wouldn't go. World title fights on your doorstep is not something to be taken for granted. It's incredibly hard to get to even EBU title level nevermind world title standard.

 

do you think lee will fight in limerick in november...is he still based in the states

 

I think when Lee's performances dipped and Dunne's peaked that Peters took his eye off the ball and went all out with Dunne. A second rebuilding project with a 30 year old Dunne who (and I'm trying not to get overly negative here) has very suspect punch resistance at the mid/highest level may not be as attractive as taking on Lee. A 25 year old with a decent record, a lot of potential (that has stalled for whatever reason), who has experience of fighting at home, in the states and in germany and is very marketable. His being very marketable is the main thing because Peters is in this to make money. Also, if Macklin is going to be based of england then there is no clash of interests by building up Lee here.

By no means am I saying Peters should give up on Dunne or whatever but I think he may now realise he needs to keep more than one iron in the fire. Really he should try and have all of his boxers on the boil as much as possible. Not always the easiest job but something he may look at doing more in the future and that would be good for all us Irish boxing fans.

Also, wtf happend Haughian last night. How did he not beat a lad of that apparently poor standard? Was he really bad or what?

 

Just wanted to mention the Darren Sutherland tribute last night in the 02. I thought it was a very fitting tribute and was very emotional during the standing ovation watching Darren on the big screens....

 

If Peters is looking for a new project how about trying to get Martin Lindsay from Hayemaker. I dont think most of the Hayemaker fighters know whats happening at the moment regarding tv deals and Peters could well do a decent job with him. Put him on the undercard or a co main event with we say Lee in the o2 and if they are fighting decent boxers it could well sell it out the ticket prices may have to drop down from the levels of a Dunne fight for it to appeal to the fans. Have to say it was nice to see some young kids at the fights hopefully them seeing the fights and atmosphere they can go on and fight on bills like these in the future.

 

Overall a disappointed night. Poonsawat looked much bigger and too powerful for Dunne from round 1. I wouldnt be too hard on Dunne, as I thought Poonsawat really pressurised Dunne into exchanges by doing a great job in cutting off the ring.

Dunne lost to a great fighter, who will be difficult to beat. Before the fight, I think too much emphasis was put on Dunne's strengthing work with McGurn, which seemed to be impressive, was talked up far too much, as if it would be a somewhat deciding factor in this fight.

I thought it was great to see so many Thai fans, who got a warm reception from everyone and added to a nice atmosphere. I also saw loads of English lads all singing and supporting Dunne. Great atmosphere.

Finally, I have never seen so many women wearing gold stiliettos, what's up with that??

 

Anyone else think the 60-57 scorecard in the fury fight was a bit dodgy? I had it 60-53

 

I watched the fight online on rte and the stream was so bad I didn,t see the knockdowns all that well but I felt them, I felt very proud of him before the fight and still did after the fight , my house was packed with friends to watch the fight and the wifes birthday too so I could only sulk like a baby for a little while before I had too bbq for a bunch of happy ****ers, it wasn,t long till I was drinking and laughing again , I remember after the 2nd harry hawkins telling bernard not to stay on the inside too long I just wish he listened to him and stuck to the game plan who knows we might of had a different outcome .also pissed off that rte didnt show all the fights.

Ok, ok, I know were all disappointed guys. First of all about Darren, then this and Haughians draw with Murray’s injury. Not to mention its Sunday, the days are getting shorter and were in the worst recession ever. Actually I think I over did the point there. But anyway look on the Bright Side - Lee according to some people not in the best form but still racked up 4 wins and put each of his opponents down. Not bad for someone who apparently isn't doing so great. Macklin just took the European Belt. Mc Closkey is about to take the European belt. We have 5 good European potential champs in the Hylands, Murray and Dean Lightning Byrne. And we have a tremendous amateur crop not to mention some potential medal winners in London 2012. Possibly a World Cup to qualify for next summer, with a defending 6 nations team to come. Ok I know I'm only meant to be talking about boxing but you catch my drift. There are also a few new undefeated boxers like Ormonde, and Spike too look out for. Just imagine Harry Hakins is our trainer telling us to get up. Lets do it Cheers.
