Dunne probably needs to fight on for the money, so I reckon he will chase another world title.:deal

:-( Thats one way to assure you don't make the best decision. You could be looking at another crushing KO defeat on the cards if thats the case. Honestly, Molitor aside maybe, I don't see who he can beat at SBW or FW at the minute for a world title.

Question for everyone. How much difference do we all think the move up to FW makes???

It might help his punch resistance, but then again he will be getting hit by heavier and stronger boxers. The road back is a minefield as one more crushing defeat will finish Bernards career.

How long can he go on at SB weight is the big question. Money wise I dont think he needs to fight. I would say he is stable money wise no huge morgage and since he has come back to Ireland most of his fights have been sell outs. I think in his last 2 fights he could of made the best part of a € 1 million and add whatever he made at European level he should be well off. I think whatever way they go with Dunne his next fight is make or break for him. If he wins it fight on if he looses call it a day but he needs to fight a decent standard fighter who will cause some problems not major but some.

for the moment munroe is out of the question, but for me that is the road he should be taking,a major irish v british battle that will pack out the o2,in the meantime do what he did after the martinez fight, fight against a few solid top 25 guys in the stadium and make a little bit of money. then one last hurrah for a world title, win or lose he is still an irish boxing legend. as much as i don't like him he made every irish man proud against cordoba and poon, and lets be honest he is a hugely skillful boxer, but just lacks the chin to cut it at the very elite level!

I think Munroe has an eliminator for the world title, but if not Dunne v Munroe at the o2 would be superb:thumbsup

Well heres your problem. Munroe is fighting Maladrottu for the EBU and as a WBC title eliminator. If he wins then hes going to go fight Nishioka for a world title so he's not going to fight Dunne.

IF he loses then hes no longer EBU champion and a Dunne -v- Munroe clash, while easier to make, becomes largely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

For all the talk of Munroe and Dunne you have to be fair. Dunne didn't need 6 months ago. Munroe doesn't need Dunne now. If Munroe loses they are both in nowhere land. And it would be little sense for either man to start their rehabilitation with such a level of risk as they would offer each other.

to be honest patrick,I just used to feel like he came across as an arrogant twat,I didn't feel like he had the skills to back up all his talk. his ebu reign for me was laced with inconsistency and alot of deficiencies, i felt he would lose to the first quality operator he faced and the rte were merely treating him as a cash cow, filling the publics mind with bias. his loss to martinez exemplified this for me!i felt there were other fighters in ireland who were being denied a chance in the limelight due to the dublin bias with dunne, but hey he went on and done us all proud against cordoba and poon.

I dunno I think Dunne get's a hard time which is unwarranted. RTE had to hype him or no one would be interested in him really. It's not Dunne's fault that other boxers weren't giving their share of the limelight, that's up to promoters really isn't it? As for his European reign, he was doing well up until Kiko, he was progressing nicely I think. Anyway you're entitled to your opinion of course and as you say he has won a lot of people over with his last two fights.

I repsect your right to an opinion there greengloves but I have to say it comes off as a bit provincial. Dunne brought big time boxing back to the masses down in the southern part of the country anyway.

I never thought he was arrogant. I did think he was over confident at certain times and didn't seem to acknowledge some of his deficiencies which ultimately led to his defeat to Martinez. Ultimately, that was the makings of him, though, since he came back with a much improved attitude in training and determination.

RTE treating Dunne as a cash cow is entirely in their own interest and nothing to do with Dunne. Its RTE you should be hating on in that case. And to be honest, as far as filling peoples minds with bias goes I don't think RTE were that bad. Every station whether its Sky or ITV or whoever big up their own fighters. Its not in their interest to say the lads they are getting you to tune into watch are shite now is it. And to be fair I think the panels and Dowling and Rock in particular weren't afraid to point out flaws and mistakes.

I don't know who you think he was keeping out of the limelight though. At the time he was our leading light in boxing, and you could argue he still is. They don't hand out EBU belts for fun and in case you haven't noticed we haven't got anyone else holding anything at the minute (until McCloskey does the business) so I really don't see the hard done by attitude. There was no one else around. Duddy and Lee were in America and none of the rest of the boys fighting domestically were anywhere near his level.

RTE and Peters investing in Bernard was nothing to do with him being from Dublin.

    i agree 100% its a massive provincial thing,dublin v the world.

your right dunne did bring big time boxing back to ireland after a long long wait and he brought with him a platform for other boxers,we just have to look at the fact lee, duddy, mccloskey fights on rte, dunne made this possible however it was my position that dunne's belief in his ability far outweighed his actual ability.

i remember the walstad fight and you would have thought he was a superstar from the comments on rte, however his performance was very poor at euro level, he came to a point were he was near disrespectful to opponents in the ring, yet over the course of a fight he would consistently get tagged,it was too late come the night of martinez and what was waiting to happen happened in the most abrupt manner!

then suddenly he got handed a world title shot, for what beating up on felix machado or damian marhciano, he didnt deserve that shot to be honest. however come fight night he was amazing and put out the greatest performance ive ever seen from an irish fighter.

essentially i think you could put it i have very little against bernard himself, what i do resent is the fact he was handed alot for doing very little.

Peters and RTE backed a lot of fighters over the last couple of years look at the Lee , Duddy , Macklin and McCloskey now 2 of those are back with Sky thanks to Peters and RTE.
