peters backed them without doubt,but they were big names duddy was well established in america and his fights here were seen as a homecoming,lee was the next big thing trained out of kronk,he was thought to be the ****,mccloskey had buckets of skill and headlined one show up in letterkenny,macklin was the same headlining against campas i htink?these were al certain sellers.

rte and peters are money making businesses and i have no problem with that,i just feel that dunne given slightly too much credit at times,he can reach near the top but will falter against smart pressure fighters who can punch,i'm not slagging his skills or anything because he has a lot of them,he made ireland proud but we have to be realistic,get big live fights in the o2 or stadium with solid undercards,the one i personally really want to see is dunne munroe but of course this won't happen for a while and if it ain't fpr a title **** it,because dunne sells in dublin!

 

theres a guy in the brit forum claiming martin lindsay is fighting on haye-valuev bill... and then defending his british title and challenging for the commonwealth title against john simpson in belfast on december....if this is true.. its a fantastic match up....simpson is good...but he wont be good enough to beat lindsay

 

I read in George Kimball's article in yesterday's Irish Times that Andy Lee is going to be headlining a Peters show in Limerick in November. Has anyone else heard this? I think it is just what Lee needs, a good fight in front of home support.

Also, I don't agree with a lot of the opinions that Dunne should retire, he should avoid big hitters like Poonsawat in the future and chart a path with fighters that suit Dunnes style. Kimball makes a great point in his article, in that, Dunne will not have a shortage of more big opportunities as he is seen a lighter touch now with most of the big names at SBW, but as shown against Cordoba, if he can win at a high level, he just needs to stay clear of the big SBWs. To be fair he didnt have any option to take the Poonsawat fight as it was a mandatory, otherwise I am sure Peters would have steered well clear of him.

Sorry there greengloves he didn't get handed a world title shot, Peters went and got it for him. Cordoba had a voluntary and Peters went out and pursued it and brought it to Dublin.

Anyway, George Kimball is a world class writer, one of the few left in boxing, but the plan of avoiding 'big' SBW's basically means hoping Caballero, Juanma, Vasquez and Marquez move up for good and laying low until they do. It's a bit of a hopeful ploy. If he stays at SBW then he needs to start working on an IBF ranking I reckon

Great news if Lee is back in business in Ireland. As I said on another post I wouldn't be too surprised if Peters focuses his attention on Lee (and others a bit more) in the near future.

 

Things can change in a year, some of those guys could move up, other avenues could become available, I just think Dunne still has some good options ahead. Peters needs to be a cute ***** and do some cherry picking for Dunne to get him back in contention for one of the straps.

I agree, we will now hopefully see more exposure of the other Irish lads whilst Dunne takes stock of his options. And Kimball is a quality writer, his piece on the Dunne fight was hands down the best I have read and I bought about 4 papers on Monday, as well as the reading material online...

bam bam,yea I know cordoba had to make a voluntary and peters went out and made the fight,i ain't arguing that for a second, what i am arguing is that he did not deserve that chance, he lost the euro belt to kiko yet four fights later he is able to fight for the world title yet he had not beat anyone of note,it's not dunne's fault i know, but it doesn't make it any more right!

it would be great to see lee back in ireland,let's hope he can put on a show and get back to his best,we all know what he is capable of with such a rangy jab and a wand of a right hand!

One thing Kimball pointed out well is that Dunne no longer calls the shots. If he's seen as a soft touch, which he may well be, and get shots because of it he'll be fighting away from home a lot.

He could probably pick up an IBO title shot as part of his 'rehabilitation' against the loser of the Munroe-Maladrottu fight or someone like Lontchi

This conflicts with the slowly, slowly, cherry picking way back. You can't do both and there is no middle ground. It's a real head scratcher. One thing I am super confident of, though, is that if he doesn't measure it to perfection its going to end, not just badly, but in a horrible fashion. I can't get my head around it at all so **** knows how the man himself feels.

Good that Lee is coming back though. And I'm confident of McCloskey doing the business. Lets see Dean Byrne come through now from WildCard hopefully. Maybe, just maybe, Patrick Hyland can step up the opposition (not his fault last time I realise) and we can get the show back on the road.

 

Yeah i heard about it in august RTE wont settle for anything less than a top level opponent (reletively speaking of course) so expect lee to be tested

 

lads on a brighter note i thought sweeney looked brilliant the other night and could have a very good future ahead of himself

Yes and I'm eating humble pie as a I predicted Power would win with some body shots. Sweeney was in better shape then I've seen him before. Maybe this was because he had to drop to LHW and looked a bit leaner. In any case he would be well suite to it by the looks of it. He needs more activity though and could do with a place on the undercard in Limerick if it go's ahead. Just hope if Lee is heading the bill they give him a credible opponent! Darren Barker or Sebastian Zbik anyone!!
