You can also add Ryder to the list (Alvarez couldn't knock him out, Ryder gets KOd by Munguia). Canelo has been on the decline for years and I hope he retires. I think the Mexican was a champion but I think he would now lose to guys like Iglesias, Pacheco and Mbilli, who are the top fighters in the category.

 

I think he's past shot now. Skills will keep him in it but his feet have slowed right down, he's never been a huge puncher but KO's have dried up. Could see him getting a real pasting soon by someone younger and fresher he's an old man in fight terms.

He's been on the down slide for years now. Let's see if he comes back rejuvenated after a year off and elbow surgery.

 

I get the feeling he'll come back visibly even more declined after the surgery and layoff. Hope I'm wrong.

To answer the OP's question, I don't think he's shot, but he's quite faded and doesn't have the hunger or desire he once did. His time as a P4P elite fighter is over and his time as a top tier fighter is very limited.

Yes, he’s fighting at weight classes above where he should be, he’s already got all the money he can spend. Seems like he’s been smart with his money so he will continue making money after boxing. Hard to get up and train to the elite level at that point. I don’t think he’ll have a GGG or Jacobs type win anymore. Against Munguia he did seem to hold back on KOing him though.

 

I don't think it's similar to ODLH being shot and losing to the much smaller Pacquaio. Canelo still has two or three more years where he can be competitive in big fights and win titles against the right opponents.
