Is Canelo Shot

To answer the OP question, Yes. He certainly must be considered so when comparing his current abilities to those of his 5-8 years ago.

 

Canelo been shot since he started showing up on fight night with KT athletic tape around his calves & knee brace in the ring.

 

He beats Pacheco

 

Canelo is not a knock out artist.... Decent power, but his IQ was a big part of why he is successful more so than power and size.

And given, each of the guys mentioned didn't fight the other opponents in the same manner they fought Canelo. Not getting a KO is not a reason to suggest a fighter is "Shot"...... or is this a thread to simply discredit a certain opponent of his for being successful.....

Honestly I don't think we know what a "shot fighter" looks like anymore. A shot fighter as I've understood it is someone who can no longer compete at the top level. Canelo won 5 rounds against the P4P number 1 whose bigger then him. Get the pens out for the obituarys.

 

But it seems to me that Canelo changed the way he fought. His run at 168 was pretty much him walking in and loading up on shots, no jab, head movement, real counter shots. And I did say that if he fought Bivol the same way he had the previous 3-4 fights he would get beat. He did the same thing with Crawford. He may be worn. He's fought a lot and has been in there with top opposition. He's reached that age were the reflexes aren't as responsive as they used to be. We'll see how he looks in his next fight.

 

I thought he looked lightning fast and sharp vs Callum Smith and Yildrim. Yildrim is target practice admittedly but Smith was a capable, tall and rangy guy and Canelo was able to out jab him and unload combos on him whilst outworking him. He looked great in that fight. I do think he fell in love with his perceived power after that fight though, so I do see what you mean. Against Scull he looked awful.

Rumours he might be fighting Mbilli next.

 

So far he has had an admirable 68 fights iirc,that there in itself is a lot of wear and tear on anybody’s body !

No, he isn’t “shot” … an example of someone who is shot is Deontay Wilder. Who now stumbles round the ring on wooden legs, can’t pull the trigger and doesn’t want to get hit. Chisora will flatten him when they get in the ring…. And a few years ago every man and his dog wouldn’t have given Chisora a hope. Which shows how far he’s fallen off.

No, Canelo isn’t the fighter he once was, he is absolutely on the slide and has been for a good while. But he isn’t shot.
