I just can't understand why the ****er couldn't throw first. It was like he needed Johnson to throw stuff at him before he threw back, and when he was opening up he had no answers for him. Froch would give a much better account of himself and probably wouldn't have that loss to Kessler if he was inclined to throw more punches as times.

He's about as slick as a dead slug - nowhere near as fast as one, either. You saw last Saturday, against an old, faded plodder, how easy he is to catch clean.Froch just doesn't know how to box.His jab is lazy, weak and he doesn't commit to it,and his combinations are sloppy, inaccurate and lack real power. He's a brawler posing as a boxer, basically.

I felt the same thing for the first fou rounds or so, but Froch is normally a slow starter. He started to boss it later, and although he mostly threw combinations in response to Johnson's attacks, he started instigating more as the fight went on, and dictated the tempo with his jab and movement.

Maybe he thinks he's slicker than he is? He's always looking to counter, which he's only sporadically effective with.

His technique is far from flawless, but his boxing skills are hugely underrated. He's medalled in the world amateur championships, the first Brit to do so, and has outboxed numerous opponents over the years. Sometimes he doesn't show his boxing skill because he's easily tempted into a brawl, but I doubt his last two opponents, Glen Johnson and Arthur Abraham, would say he can't box, or that his jab is lazy and weak.

definitely this, with his style at a first look he looks a ko waiting to happen or to get schooled when he fights outside of domestic level opponents. yet he pulls of wins, takes on way tougher competition then he should, and somehow is competitive and survives to get to the final.
Also even if somehow manages to exploit his flaws like johnson did he has a granite chin to take the hit, he also has great stamina and a great reach that helps him be competitive and usually take over later in the fight.
Froch is a gladiator and very deceptive

No Froch is not slick at all. He's awkward and knows how to use his reach and control distance but he gets hit too much to ever be called slick. Froch does well against shorter fighters who come at him like Pascal and AA where he can control range to win rounds. But tall guys like Taylor, Dirrell and Kessler who were as fast if not faster gave him big problems and made him look easy to hit.

Yes he is. He's hard to hit from long range, has a good jab, and when hit, he comes right back with his own punches like a lot of the past slick fighters do.

Yes, Froch is a slick boxer. Not Sweet Pea slick, but he's slick.

He's not your traditional slick but can look quite slick at times.

Johnson said amongst other fighters that he throws a fair amount of punches you cannot see due to his style, so I suppose unorthodox slick rings about true.

He is slick and it works for him despite being slow. I can't think of anyone else like that. I feel like Froch is on the short list of guys who use every drop of their potential.
