Is it just possible that Pavlik just had a bad night. Some times if sports someone just catches you on a really bad day when your opponent is just in the zone. Perhaps its not the weight. Maybe just maybe its not the styles its just as Pavlik says he just felt like **** in their. Is that possible?
bhop got his number simply bc pavlik didn't have a bernard hopkins on his resume who have that type of ring savvy. Kelly can beat 95% of the fighters bc 95% of the fighters doesn't have the footwork and defense like bhop.
Even before this fight, we knew Pavlik was limited, in that he was predictable. He only did one thing, but he did/does it really, really well! Anyone who stands in front of Pavlik is dead meat, we knew that Hopkins was a better fighter, the question was whether or not Hopkins could keep up the pace at his age. What Hopkins did was put the fear in Pavlik early. Pavlik was afraid to let go because Hopkins made him pay early in the fight. It was not the case of a bad night for Pavlik, it was the case that he was in their with a puglistic master in the form of Bernard Hopkins.
Amen. All true. Pavlik didn't unload not because he had a bad night, but because he couldn't. The way Hopkins operates, the angle/time/oppurtunity is never right or never comes. Look at Calzaghe; he had to just throw the kitchen sink at Hopkins towards the end of rounds in the hope of snatching them. Someone like Calzaghe can break hrough Hopkins awkwardness. He's got better with age, and I don't think Jermain Taylor would have ti all his own way at a higher catchweight (not that he had it all his own way in their 1st two fights but that's another story)
Hopkins MADE Pavlik have a bad night. If you'll watch the fight, Pavlik attempted on many occasions to try his double jab into a right hand. However, Hopkins saw it coming every time and was able to slip out of the way long before it reached him. That was discouraging for Pavlik. He was countered on every occasion and wasn't able to land his own shots. He was beaten physically and mentally. He should be able to rebound and still beat the rest of the fighters around.
Good points. Here's what I don't understand about all the posters hating on Pavlik. Guys like Arguello, Duran, Leonard, Hearns, and many others found out that what they did so well did not work every night, against every fighter, at every weight. Pavlik just had the same experience. Like Arguello/Fernandez or Hearns/Barkley Kelly got his ass handed to him by a guy he should have beat. So why is he a bum, but those guys aren't? Let the kid have a career before we pass judgement.
I dunno. He say'd that at the hotell room, at the warm up in the locker room he felt great so it is hard to say that he had a bad night. I think the weight was a major issue but still a bigger issue was the man in the opposite corner.
