Itauma vs. Foreman

Foreman would find his way to win

 

The only person in history with a chance of beating Itauma is surely only Usyk. The rest are dust.

 

Rather than pairing dozen fight prospects with all time greats I say we take it to the next level and start grabbing amateurs to fight Foreman, Ali, Louis etc

 

We'll know this better when someone finally tests Itauma's chin.

 

@Seamus @mr. magoo - random but you two know your boxing, bar Riddick Bowe whom I think you two underrate massively. What do you think of Itauma?

I'm certainly not sold on him yet, all we know is that he is a very dangerous two rounder.

 

Thanks for the compliment. I like him but as he moves up it won't be this easy and his gas tank and pacing will be tested. He's definitely got a lot of the natural components you want, and I don't mean the obvious stuff. He's fluid and powerful and instinctive. Let's see him get tagged by a real puncher or face a guy who just will not go down. At the point he's appointment viewing to watch the development.

 

I have yet to see today’s performance. But based on previous footage I think he’s extremely talented. Perhaps a POTENTIAL next champion. Am I ready to compare him with all time greats in fantasy fights ? No.. why ? Because regardless of whether or not he’d actually beat them, putting a prospect in with a legend is just disrespectful to said legend. It’s like raising the hypothetical question of whether or not the mail room kid could run the company better than the original founder. Maybe he could .but there’s a time and place later to raise that question.

Amateur fighters have come a long way since the days of Ali, Stevenson, Dokes, Page and everyone else. Amateur boxing has naturally progressed like every other sport. Split the difference between 3 and 15 round's (lets say 8-10) and the recent ams clean house. The old guys would be between welter and middle in modern am boxing. They wouldn't handle the size of the current guys even as pro's.

The eye test looks like he's on the way to being the GOAT or thereabouts? You know better Mel. How many ranked guys has he beaten? What happens when he fights better fighter that can push him, drag into deeper water?

History is littered with guys, especially knock out artists, that were going to be the one. Hell, a ridiculous amount of people, some that should have known better, were heavily sold on Cooney. It's human nature.

He looks extremely promising at this point. He's shown loads of power and i like the way he moves for a big guy. He has an excellent punch arsenal and can be quite sharp with his counters. His hand speed is instantly noticeable. He also doesn't neglect the body and is eye openingly fast moving in and out which so far allows him to pound the body with straight lefts for no return. On top of this he see's punches extremely well and is almost always mindful of defensive.

I love the looks of him. He has so many tools, both physical and technical. At this point it's a matter of waiting and seeing how he holds up as the opposition ramps up. Where exactly does he sit mentally and durability wise. That will be the hurdle.

I really hope they continue to develop and match him as smartly as they have. He's fought so little, both amateur and pro. I'd hate to see him (potentially) rushed from here, there's no huge hurry. In no way do i want to see him fight Usyk anytime soon. I also don't want to see him stagnate, opponent wise.

Heavyweight boxing is at the end of a good era. Joshua, Usyk and Fury have provided interesting times. Wilder as well at a lesser more protected extent. Hopefully Itauma can rise up and fill the upcoming hole.

You're being too kind on the old timers. One cannot adequately describe how speedy the rate of the sport's evolution has progressed and will continue progressing. No point comparing a crude bum like Foreman to Itauma. I think even posters here could take him. Some notable posters here have him all figured out and know how full of weaknesses he was, which is why they can't leave him alone, as the ignorant masses consider him great. it will be a cinch for them to do what Ali and Young did to him. I'm sure anyone under 30 here could beat Marciano too. That's how rapid evolution is. Not just in Boxing but in all sports, for all time.

If you think Owen's and Bolts' speed difference of 10.3 to 9.58 is significant, wait till you see when in 2356 everyone will be running the 100 meters in 5.0 seconds. Swimmers by then will have improved so significantly that they won't even need to swim, their dive length will be across the entire pool. A few brave but less athletically gifted souls might get brain damage by hitting their head on the other edge though.

Don't even get me started on the Boxers. You know how in some old footage, a punch is landed but the sound comes a few moments later due to old film audio being **** ? That will also be the case in 2356, but not because the audio will be ****, but because even the slowest of Boxers will punch faster than the speed of sound by then. The average Heavyweight is gonna be 15 feet tall and a lean 666 lbs and still do that.
