    Let's assume that Dempsey and Wills met, and Dempsey emerged the victor?

    Then Wills automatically gets diminished by the loss!

    Not really...great fighters losing to other great fighters...it sometimes enhances both legacies

    They met in a saloon and Dempsey said:
    "I won't fight you in the ring ,but I'll go down in the cellar with you,you , big , beautiful , black boy!"
    Wills sensibly declined. Sure I read that somewhere.

    The way that's worded, it doesn't sound like Dempsey was planning on fighting him down there.

    I've definitely seen the same story with Jeffries and Jack Johnson, and I'm sure I've seen it for Sullivan and Peter Jackson. Either the dumbest boxer tradition ever, or all made up by an unimaginitive author

    Toronto Canada, Sept 11th 1930. Jack Delaney was the referee ,10rds , Pearson's Warehouse on Gerrard St,[its now a hotel]
    Both scored kd's, and it was a ruled a draw.
