    why is this **** in general forum?


    Dempsey was great in his time, but by no way is he more overrated then say jack Johnson or Jim Jeffries

    JJ gets a freebie because he was black, and ppl. asume that he had it hard in those times...what ppl. forget is that not only JJ ducked his 3 best black opponents but also his best white one, which ko'ed him 2 times in sparring sessions.
    He was giving title shots to fighters which lost to at least one of the previously mentioned 4 fighters.

    have u heard some of Berbicks comments afterwards regarding the fight?

    he said stuff like he was drugged during the fight and there is hidden footage of that fight, i read it somewhere, cba to find it now

    and im not joking either

    I don't think Jack Dempsey is overrated. If anyone is overrated, it's Muhammad Ali. People act like he was the only heavyweight to box. Makes me sick sometimes. Great fighter, but there were other greats. The casual girl working at the mall doesn't know who Larry Holmes or Jack Dempsey are, but she knows Ali and Tyson.

    But back to the OP, Jack was responsible for boxing's first million dollar gate. The kid was exciting, and was an explosive puncher. No way is he overrated. He deserves what little praise he does get.

    Dempsey was a great fighter. He beat the best in his weight in his era which for me earns him ATG heavyweight status.
