The record speaks for itself. Nobody handed Johnson nothing. He fought the toughest of roads under the most brutal and humiliating of circumstances to make his mark in the sport. As talented as he was he still had to take his share of shots. No one pitches no hit ball fight after fight. From 1903 to 1915 he fought a shitload against the best fighters in the world, fast small men, huge powerful men and all in between and never was stopped. I'd say his chin was more than good enough.
HE, There are some reports to read. Most of the reports I read said Jim Johnson got the better of the action. I believe in the book Unforgivable Blackness, there is mention of this fight. The verdict which took some time had one judge picking Battling Jim the winner, and the other two having it a draw. The draw of course allowed Jack to keep his title, although the French were appalled to the point of wanting to strip him of the title. This suggest some outrage to the decsion. Keep in mind, this was Jack Johnson's show. Johnson was a good business man. He might have had some influence picking the judges.
Can you show me one report with detail that says Jack was the better in this fight? I have read none. On this topic you are a fan boy who cherry picks the best out there, and embraces it as the gospel truth. But seriously, if you can find other reports on Jack Johnson vs. Battling Jim Johnson, post them here.:good Until then I see no posted news paper rebuttal by you that says Jack was getting the better. I see nothing by you either on the fact that France were so disgusted with the results, that wanted to strip Jack Johnson as champion. If Johnson were white, I'm pretty sure this result would be one of those matches where some would say it was a draw because his opponent was black. At the very least if Jack Johnson wanted to clear his name and reputation, he would have offered a re-match. Can you name me one top champion who drew to a journeyman as champion?
Can you show me one post of mine, where I suggested that Jack had the better of the fight? France was so disgusted by the results? I find this a rather sweepng statement.I have no doubt the crowd were disgusted, but I have read that it was as a result of the lack of action, not because of the decision. Johnson was so unpopular, he fought in the same arena 6 months later in a title defence against Frank Moran.:huh Johnson was not a top champion when he fought Jim Johnson, he was a debauched 36 year old fugitive, whose lifestyle had caught up with him . Johnson had been out of the ring for 18 months carousing and drinking heavily. Johnson's best days were clearly behind him, he was ready to be taken . Johnson did not give a **** about what ANY MAN thought of him ,and his reputation could not have been any blacker by the time he fought Battling Jim, Johnson was reduced to staying in flea bag hotels. He fought Big Jim for eating money over Xmas , the crowd booed vociferously throughout the fight ,which did not start until midnight, the lack of action ,brought forth cries of fake, Johnson was passive ,Big Jim crude ,the champion tired alarmingly as the contest drew to a close . Just what the **** this has to do with Jack Johnson's chin I do not know ? One top champion who drew with a journeyman? How about one top champion, who was knocked out by two journeyman? WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO :hi:
