Fights April 20th against Caleb Truax in Biloxi, MS (Showbox card). He and Pat Burns were on the Little Rock Sportstalk station today and some of the things that stood out... *Was reporting to camp 195-200 lbs prior to getting back with Burns, said he lost his "love for the sport" and was going through the motions. Said he got caught up spending too much time partying and living the life and simply was no working hard enough. *He is reported to current camp at 171 and is already on weight. When talking about why/how he and Burns both gave high praise to Hopkins for his dedication to staying fit in between fights, and that way "training camp" was used for training as opposed to simply losing weight. They spent two minutes talking about Hopkins and how you have to respect the work he puts in to stay in shape and how he cares for his body. Jermain has adopted a similar approach hence reporting to camp at 171. *Burns says they will focus on ensuring Jermain is strong and conditioned well...says the move to MW was "common sense", at MW he's a "big guy" and should be feared, relative to being an average size to smaller SMW. Says Jermain should have never been fighting at SMW and it speaks to how far off his conditioning was. *Fully expects to compete for a title by the end of next year. *Ultimately wants to unify the MW division.
The only thing Taylor is going to accomplish by trying to fight is a higher spot in the Official Chincheckers Glass Jaw Rankings. He has nothing left and no Chin. None.
Jermain has said all the right things before, just like Pavlik has. He's a likable guy and I'm sure he is sincere. Could he cop a title? Maybe. Unify? Not likely. Not even if he had the talent to do so. Politics and belt nursers will prevent that from happening.

World class fighters rarely come back from back to back knockout losses, at least not to the level they were previously. Taylor always come across as a good egg, and for the sake of his health I'd prefer if he called it a day. There's plenty of fighters he can still beat, but sooner or later he's going to walk into someone who can bang and be on the wrong end of a highlight reel.
Todays boxers take two things for granted at their peril; Defense and weight discipline. I wish JT all the luck in the world he was very good to watch during his prime years. Hope he can make another run
I think Taylor has the ability to have a good comeback. Maybe he won't be able to beat Martinez but I'm sure he could beat a belt holder, especially Sturm. Whilst Taylor has become a bit chinny over the years, I think he's good enough to achieve good things at 160. 168 was too much for him, I think, and his biggest flaw is too vulnerable against those stronger fighters.
How was 168 too much for him? He was beating Froch's ass, nearly KO'd him, but couldnt make it to the finish line. Abaham was a below average 168 lber. JT just couldnt get it done, it isn't like those dudes he lost to where some monsters.
If he's 168 he's out of shape, he easily made 160 in every fight Burns trained him, he hasn't lost with Burns in the corner, and he developed conditioning issues which ultimately cost him against Froch and AA.
