Saw joe bugner on fri night,up on the mine site. Was waiting to board the plane to come home and off walks Aussie Joe with all these young kids, think it was a footy club or somthing.
Thought whats he doing up here, were about 700km north of Perth, and he still looks in great shape for his age, said hello and shook his big bear paw of a hand.

Think he was at one stage on the board of a mining company.

Also, you surface or underground? Looking to get back in, 8yrs experience underground.

Nice, did years on trucks and also was lh on service crew, last job was on the longhole. If you feel like passing on any names or numbers that would be appreciated. Its not Leinster is it?

Fark, 2 weeks of inductions, what ever happened to the good old days when they put in a vhs tape of some boring safety gibberish and disappeared for an hour while you copied the answers of the answer sheet they'd accidently left behind. Theres only so many ways of saying "Don't **** up". Then again, some of the people I've worked with, 2 months might be a better option.

    Is this hardrock?
Fair dinkum, I done a stint wheeling (with horses) in a contract pit (Coal. Long time ago) then a few years later in a mechanised mine.
Both times I started on the face. No VHS. Nothing.
It was a case of "do as your told & you'll get out alive" & I did.
Many years later I went through a longwall pit in Qld where this induction program was in place. There was little trace of it's value.
I think they should call it "The dumbing down program".

I do a bit of part time work in a hotel in central Qld where Anglo Coal holds some of their training conferences for surface miners, talk about a feel good exercise. Anglo flys up two philosophical types from Brisbane who spend 6 hours a day teaching the boys how to 'build relationships' with each other. Once the course is finished for the day the miners proceed to drink every drop of grog in the place on the companies tab.. total crock

I made a similar reference to the size of Bugners paw when I met him. It is a dead set baseball mitt.
