Joe Calzaghe might be the most overrated boxer of all time. Especially by UK fans. Kosta Tszyus resume is arguably better .

He was very good fighter who's HOF worthy but he is ridiculously overrated. He's in that Kosta Tszyu, Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, GGG tier

No he isnt. Ward and Canelo have accomplished more at that weight. Id favor Ward, Canelo, Roy, Toney and Benavidez to beat Calzaghe head to head at 168

Joe was an awesome fighter. Undefeated for a reason. Fast as lightening, fitter than a butchers dog and great ring iq. Joes autobiography is a good read if any one is interested.

I would love to have seen Ward vs Joe. All the above would of been great match ups.

He was an awesome fighter. The main reason he is undefeated is because he didnt face very good competition in most of his fights.

I have posted my thoughts on Joe before. A lot of smoke and mirrors in his career - and I say that as a fellow Brit. I was never a fan, even at the time. I do concede that he fought some good names towards the back end of his career (Kessler, Hopkins - Jones was shot to bits). But there was an awful lot of padding his record against sub par opposition. He should have tested himself much sooner.

I agree, extremely overrated, bunch of WBO defenses when it was looked at as worthless, fought an overrated yank in Jeff Lacy, an injured Mikkel Kessler then managed to move up and win a controversial decision against a senior citizen then another UD vs a walking corpse then decided to call it a career. I'm not even going to mention his punching technique aka karate chops which shouldn't even be counted as legal blows.

I certainly wouldn't. Roy, sure. Not the others.

    GOAT.

I see Ward beating him, Ward was Mayweather level while Calzagle good , he wasn't Pacquaio level

I see a motivated Toney beating him he has a good record against world class Southpaws Nunn, Johnson, Jirov.

Nunn had awkward angles and speed and Toney broke him down.

Jirov had the punch output of Calzaghe and Toney also broke him down.

And lets be real Calzaghe might be the GOAT at Super Middleweight based on quantity, but that's only because fighters like Jones, Toney, and etc moved up in weight. The Super Middleweight division when Calzaghe was fighting didn't exactly have marquee names.

I mean look at this list....

    Branko Sobot
    Tocker Pudwill
    Evans Ashira
    Peter Manfredo
    Kabary Salem
    Miguel Angel Jimenez
    Will McIntyre
    Rick Thronberry

That's a very poor list of names...

Toney's a close call, no doubt. Could go either way. But Toney was outworked by far less crafty guys (Tiberi, Thadzi). And the very crafty Reggie Johnson put James on his ass in a fight I scored for Reggie. Granted Reggie was a special fighter. But Joe was even more special.

And that list of Calzahge's somehow omits Kessler, B-Hop, RJJ, Lacy, Woodhall, Sheika, Reid, Eubank... I'm sure it was but an oversight.

    And, oh, I forgot... 46-0.
