u cant doubt calzaghes boxing ability? the guy was a great fighter and was probably dodged himself. hopkkins pulled out of a fight with him in 2003, taylor wanted 10million to fight him after winner of manfredo jr fight, kessler is a world class fighter and is going to win the super 6 tournament, hopkins was ranked no3 in p4p rankings when calzaghe beat him. hes a better all round fighter than hatton that for definete.

I hope you are just playing devils advocate there Jeff becuase I'm sure you know several of those points are well off. If you've put that up to counter hugging fair play as of course the truth does lie between the two extremes.

Joe had a very very good career. It could have been better. He was an awesomely talented fighter but played it safe a bit too often and ended with a record that, although excellent in itself, doesnt quite live up to what he could have achieved.

Mansell winning it was class. His tash has more personality than nigel.

And joe winning saved us frm Hamilton winning which in my mind can only be seen as a good thing. He's a great driver but he is a smug little *****.

    great boxer.

his ability to fight at a high pace and the speed made him what he was.

    very difficult to fight. :bbb

hit harder than he gets credit for as well.

unfortunately he'll never get the credit he deserves cos of all those poor fights he had. :patsch

watching froch the other week made u realise how good calzaghe was though.

calzaghe would have been throwing punches at dirrell instead of following him around all night.

To this day however the highest ever attendance for a fight held in Britain belongs to the match-up between Len Harvey and Jock McAvoy at the White City Stadium in London in.

On the 10th of July 1939 the pair met in front of a live gate of an estimated 90,000 at the White City Stadium.

Hatton attracted 55,000 for a bout of little significance, Joe 50,000 against Kessler

    http://www.secondsout.com/uk-boxing-news?ccs=228&cs=24795

Klitschko beat Chagaev in Germany front of 61,000.

Chavez has the record crowd of 136,274 or something.

Come on, no ones buying that biggest attendance with a roof half open stuff;). The Millennium Stadium is just a football stadium with a retractable roof. How on earth does that make filling it with fans any more special then filling any other football/rugby stadium; it simply doesn't. That's not to say that Joe didn't attract decent crowds though, because he did.

    Rugby Stadium, surely?

But with the roof shut it is an indoor arena, and completely different. As far as I remember it was closed for Calzaghe/Kessler, only thing I remember it being half open for is speedway, to let the fumes out.

His punching technique was too poor, at times, to be given that accolade.
