i agree completely that 'risk versus reward' was everything to do with hopkins' decision - and jones has admitted that himself that it is why he never fought calzaghe when it mattered.

but - it should matter more to calzaghe because (even though he was the legitimate super middle champ for so long - and no-one can dispute that), there's a huge difference between a legitmiate champ in boxing and a legitimate champ on the world stage (meaning you have the marketability OR the notoriety to attract the attention of the best fighters on the planet).

saying that calzaghe is "not in his prime" now is probably true, but because he has no defining fight against a proven world class fighter in their prime that is why people judge him.

 

Your just a Calzaghe nuthugger. The punch that put him down was excellent but after the that Calzaghe's punches were not hurting him and he was throwing back. The round was almost over, Mithchell was OK but a bit off balanced aferwards and it was a championship fight.

Subjective. It's all subjective...I happen to rate Eubank and Kessler as damn near enough elite.

I also happen to trust the words on Calzaghe by those who have fought him. And others, namely SRL, Hagler, Benn, I'm sure people are by now aware of what they have openly said about him. I dunno, I'm willing to accept that SRL, Hagler and Benn know a bit more about boxing than me. You might have them trumped though. :conf

Ive only been on this site for a month and i have read a lot of your comments and a lot, if not most of the times you are pretty fair and close to the mark, but this sentence is not. There has been lots of fighters who somehow get on to lists of ATG's or Legends or whatever, that are far higher than Calzaghe will ever climb, who only have a chin, or a pop, or both, no mesmerising skill, or in cases skill at all. At this point i would name them but i dont think i have to, the dozen names that popped into youre head when youre thinking about who im talking about does it for me. IMO any Elite fighter of the last 10 years would have had their hands full with him and thats good enough for me.

 

what a shame calzaghe didn't get "lucky" too, huh?

Peak Roy Jones would not have had his hands full with Joe Calzaghe, same as he didn't have them full with Bernard Hopkins or James Toney. However, I have to knock off for the night, will come back to this tomorrow.

 

what he means is calzaghe wasn't in the loop even though he was more deserving (take tarver, your example).
