Ali had average power not the one punch stopping type of power but enough to
accumulate damage and soften up an opponent for the finish. Minus Liston who we can debate threw the second fight Ali hasn't really been one to stop someone in quick fashion but by tiring them out or like I said accumulating punches. That's how he beat Foreman by tiring him out and Bonavena through accumulation and when you are worn out doesn't matter how great your chin is you are going to go down or at least get stopped

Frazier was in no trouble at all vrs. Stander. Frazier was slightly staggered against Bugner and Ali but so what? This doesn't make for a bad chin. Joe just bores in and gets caught. His style. Joe was on his way to stopping Bugner but left him off the hook. Foreman just is not a good example in the Frazier chin debate. Anyone who tried to go right at George was walking into bombs.

As a pro, how many fighters put Joe on the floor? Frazier was green in the first Bonavena fight. Mentioning Joe's knees buckling a few times doesn't demonstrate a bad chin. Look at all the shots Joe took with his bore ahead style throughout his career. Joe was taking some clean shots from Foreman in their second fight and his knees were not buckling.
Eventually George got him in the fifth with blow after blow.

frazier kicked the ass of norton in the sparring sessions... frazier would take this type of power easily... lyle would have been a bigger risk post manilla

I don't think Joe's chin would ever be confused with the chin of George Chuvalo that's for sure. However, Frazier was a tough man with a solid chin.

Yeah, a subpar, post FOTC Joe got blasted out in 2 rounds by George Foreman but really, who else would get up 6 times against him even in that condition?

I tend to favour Joe having a very good chin but not a great chin. The shots that Ali landed on him in the 14th round of Manilla would put a lot of heavweights down, but Joe stood up with both eyes closing and kept going forward at Ali.

Toughness? This is where Joe Frazier stands near the top or arguably at the top of the greatest heavyweights of all time. Both Ali and Foreman back in the day and to this day consider Frazier one of the toughest of all time opponents they fought.

I keep hearing flak about Marciano having a weak chin because he was dropped by Archie Moore who someone claimed was a weak blown up middleweight. A weak blown up MW wouldn't have more career KO's than anyone else in the history of the sport. Plus, Moore may have started out as a MW but certainly grew into the LH/HW that eventually fought Marciano. As for being past it, Moore went on to have nearly 40 fights after losing to Marciano, one of them being a tough come from behind slugfest with Yvonne Durell in which Moore was decked 2 or 3 times but came back to wear down and KO Durell. Hardly the stuff of an over the hill fighter. Moore could punch. At any rate I think both Frazier and Marciano had good chins but better mental toughness and heart. They never quit.
