I've always been a fan of Joey Archer and I've seen both of his title bouts with Emile Griffith (another lifelong favorite of mine), as well as having read articles of the fights in the S.I. Vault, and I have a question for you guys,..whatever happened to him after his "walkaway from bxing in disgust" retirement? I know he passed away a couple of years ago, but I've always been curious as to what he ended up doing after retiring from boxing.
Joey came to one of the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame Induction and Award Ceremonies several years. I saw him sitting at one of the tables, and as the President of the Hall, I had the pleasure of introducing him. I also knew his brother Jimmy very well. As far as I know, Joey is still a live and well BUT he doesn't attend any boxing events. His name was up for Induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this year, BUT they only picked 3 in the modern class and he came up short.
Where did you hear that? :? Very discouraging if true; I had hoped to track him down for an interview. We seem birds of a feather when it comes to taste in fighters. :good
Man, I guess I'm wrong about that..I mean, I HOPE I'm wrong about it..I need to go to that website "Dead or Alive" I guess (lol)..yeah I--B..I gravitate to fighters that aren't always big mainstream names...like Willie Pastrano, Hugo Corro, Harold Johnson, etc., Please don't pay any attention to my "death notice"..let's just hope I'm "dead wrong" instead!!
If Joey's still alive I'm glad about it!! I'd be interested in a good, comprehensive "Where are They Now" series or web site regarding boxing..I've always been intrigued as to how great and not so great champs of the past are living their lives.
