John gave it his all and can leave with his head held high. He was never going to be a world level fighter... but he got his chance to perform at the Mecca of boxing in front of a good number of people and for a World Title. It's only a small percentage of boxers who can say that to be honest. He lacks a lot in the defensive department and is a basic fighter with a lot of heart. Been exciting watching him, but I think he needs to have a long think about his options now, realistically. Been to a few of his fights and it's always good. He's also a top lad to talk to and I'm genuinely gutted... but in all fairness, it was going to happen.
John fought the best in the division and came up short, there is no shame in that. If you also take into account the massive weight difference on fight night I think he did well to last as long as he did. He needs to take a bit of time off get a couple of easy wins under his belt and then go again. I still think that if matched correctly he can win a version of the world title. With Rios, Guerrero moving to 140lbs and Marquez unlikely to defend his Lightweight titles the division could soon be very open. My only worry is if he has the punch power to really make an impact at world level.
Shut the **** up you thick ****, instead of criticising him, he deserves credit for putting on a very brave effort against a very good fighter, especially when the odds were all stacked against him.
At least John Murray came to fight and showed heart more then I can say about other fighter's who come just for a pay check and lay down.
I don't think there's any maybe to it. He's definitely solid Euro level. You don't think he could easily lift Rees' belt? (or Crolla's British belt, which is nominally a lesser decoration but would be a bigger achievement against a currently better opponent)
He was like Ricky Hatton II except he lasted several more rounds. When you see his record as 30-1, as an American I'm like, "okay, he must be pretty good" Be honest, who really are the 30 other people? He put in a nice effort but come on, he was supposed to be more of a test to Rios.
As you may know, Im no fan of Murray, but fair play to him sounds like he did well and was brave. Earned more respect from me. Its getting annoying in these fights now where the opponent is coming in overweight and holding ALL the cards.
What bull****, practicaly everyone was calling this a mismatch before the fight, most people thought Murray wouldnt last 6 rounds. Murray is a solid European level fighter, nothing more, nothing less. And when he lost to Kevin Mitchell in his previous fight, I think it was made pretty clear that Murray was never going to be a world class boxer. And it was nothing like the Hatton fight, Hatton got blown away, Murray was systematically broken down over a period of 11 roundsatsch
