Yep, I read that article. Its very to take the moral high ground over this and claim to be a purist or a true boxing fan in defence of DeGale and lump all the people who critize the performance as ignorant, blood thirsty thugs. The bottom line is that it was a poor performance, of course DeGale has plenty of time to improve but that doesn't alter the quality of Saturday nights performance.
That's right, He flicks. Seriously though i don't have a problem with DeGale's fighting style, but if your gonna come on with the big swagger and the billy big bollocks attitude then you have to back it up in the ring.
Why are you mentioning colour, Eubank has been DeGale's biggest critic. "GUARANTEED to fail" Chris said. Chris is black incase you hadn't noticed. I like Johnny Nelson, but he spent alot of time championing his own cowardly in-ring skills, so it's obviously a style he likes to watch i.e DeGale. The only racial aspect of Nelson's opinion was due to the fact Saunders welched on tarmac'ing Johnny's drive after taking £180 off him.
Most of those punches were simply nonsense. He has a style that is incredibly amateurish. tapping the head of his opponent hitting with the back of the fist to name a few. Degale has ALOT of work and much to learn. His peformance was VERY average for a debut but he has a safety first style just like Nelson so of course he found him the most impressive.
Johnny's brother Azumah said Chris and Johnny were inseperable in Borstal, so it stands to reason they'd have the same views.
Race has no part to play in this issue. Nelson clearly just knows **** all!! Prior to the fight and at every opportunity since he wont Gold Degale has been talking himself up to be some sort of modern day Sugar Ray Leonard and after his opening fight as a pro he is clearly nothing of the sort. Fans have been listening to him spout all this shite and even if he had ko'd the guy in the first round he would have got bad press. To me Degale looks average, possibly British/CW titlist. Nowhere near world class. He is an arrogant ****. :good
DeGale has worse technique then Calzaghe. DeGale often slaps with the inside and outside of the glove!
To prove that point you just have to watch Nicky Piper spunking his pants silly over Degale's performance. There is no race issue here.
i agree with jc, after all degale's build up before the fight his performance on the night was ****. but it was only his debut, he's got a lot to learn and definately needs to shed his amateur style. lets just see what happens next.
