Extraordinary. That was the most savage beating I've seen laid on a reigning champ since Anderson gave Franklin an impromptu rhinoplasty in their first bout. This was even more impressive, however, given that Jones is so ****ing young and relatively inexperienced.
Great win, anyone who watches it would be insane to think otherwise I dont think Shogun is going to get much better fellas, hate to say it. His training Camps are now going to be geared to not blowing out those knees rather than getting back to his 2006 form. So forget this pipe dream of a 100% Shogun It wont happen He's still more than capable of kodding most of the division, but I think Jones is a bridge too far
Shogun is probably the most nuthugged guy to come over from Pride. People refuse to let go of Shogun and still believe he's the best in the LHW division. Really startled me when people made excuses for him in the Jones fight. Shogun til they die.
As Shogun has looked flat recently after coming off an injury lay off I call it a really good performance.
If it happens, this will be the case 99,9%, given that it's impossible for Shogun to look worse in a fight! Have to agree with those that say Shogun isn't going to get much better. He's been into many wars, makes sense. Still he's FAR from shot and at the moment I don't believe there is another fighter apart from Jones that can even come close to what Jones did to him, hence why I was absolutely stunned with Jones' performance that night. Yeah I don't believe that Shogun was 100%, but he was nothing close to as faded as his nuthuggers would have you believe. And ultimately we didn't have a chance to see how close to peak he was, because he started getting brutally dominated about ten seconds into the fight. Without Jones in the division, Shogun is very possibly still the man to beat. (Though I'm still pretty high on Rashad, he is a very solid, smart fighter IMO) Unfortunately, Jones probably straight up beats the **** out of any version of Rua. I'm not sure that there was any 20 second stretch in that fight that Shogun won. :hat
I voted Other. Jones's Performance: Superb, much like Mir's win over Nogueira was superb. You can only beat what's in front of you, and Jones did that in dominant and impressive fashion with brilliant striking and brutal takedowns, top control and GnP. Jones's win: This I can't rate so highly, so I'd say merely good, because any win over a fighter of Rua's calibre has some value. However, I've seen how shitty Shogun has looked before when he's coming off lay-offs or not fully fit (see Griffin 1, Coleman, etc), and even before that fight I was concerned about the long lay-off due to surgery, as well as his poorer than normal physical cut at the weigh-in and in the Octagon. I think the version of Shogun that night was rusty, sluggish, and out of shape. Would Jones have crushed a peak fitness and sharpness Rua? Maybe. I hope Shogun earns another title shot soon so we can find out for sure, because he was NOT the best he could be that night, not at all.
