Just putting this out there, if Aoki beats Melendez in Japan, the same logic I used doesn't work because Melendez has significant ring experience.
The different between the ring & cage is the size and the clinch against the fence. In either Aoki isnt taking Gilbert down easily and in the ring it will suit Melendez much better stand up. So either way Shinya is at a disadvantage because he isnt as well rounded as he should be.
arent you guys counting out anthony pettis? he may not have been that tested trough out his career but he is always fun to watch and its only one of his fights that went 5 rounds and even that fight wasnt boring as some fight tend to get after that long.
Disagree, I think the cage allowed Melendez to avoid Aoki's takedowns by backing up against it and Aoki was not prepared for Melendez to use the fence like this. In his second octagon fight, Aoki showed more aptitude in keeping his opponent from using the fence.
jose aldo is the very best featherweight at the moment and no one will take his belt for another 3 years as korean zombie, miguel torres and mike brown are the only ones i believe that pose any danger at all to jose aldo!
If he beats Egar in a dominating fashion, I would stop watching MMA. No one beats an elite wrestler with very good striking in this game. Its just not done. Great wrestling is 50% of the game, the greatest base skill in MMA. Now with these athletes learning to strike, its becomes a pretty simple winning formula. Learn to defend the subs and its pretty much a wrap. And no, Aldo wont take Edgar, Maynard down, dont go there Sonnen who punches like a girl beat up the supposed next GOAT in Anderson for 4 1/2 rounds, go figure. I would like to respond to this in my usual way, but I don't know anything about your avatar so I am unable to do so. I don't deny that Melendez was dominating that fight, but the cage is a different environment and Melendez had a big advantage having experience with it.
