I wasn't saying he hasn't. I haven't seen much of his amateur fights so I was just saying its a good match and I can see why Booth is excited by him.
Very impressed with Kelly last night, fantastic debut performance. Like Coldwell said on the commentary, he is the perfect fit for Adam Booth. He looked very classy.. the jab looked sharp, his foot work was on point and when he stepped it up a gear letting his hands go he did look rather special. Also good to see a fighter turning pro taking a 'proper' fight. For too long we've seen top amateurs turn over, who go from fighting the world's elite in the amateur game to fighting Dave from the local pub or Filip the polish plumber. Byrne came to fight, was solid opponent and Kelly will have learned 10 x more from that in getting those good rounds under his belt rather than blowing away a no hoper inside 60 seconds.
Certain fighters don't get that obligatory can feast if they really are the business Andrew selby was another straight into fighters with winning records that come to win.
He certainly ticked most boxes for a meaningful pro debut. I liked him, look forward to seeing him in action again.
I really enjoyed watching him fight, don't think he will be everyone's cup of tea but I can see a lot of people tuning into his fights in the future either because they appreciate his boxing skill or just want to see a cocky fighter get knocked out.
Theres a lot of potential here with this young man that was plain to see. There was also a lot of work to do. He was shoulder rolling but wasnt doi g it correctly and inevetibly byrne broke thru it,he was probably just showboating but he left himself wide open and if he does stupid stuff like that against someone who can deal the counter hex be in trouble. Also his allround defence aint brill. Saying all that hes just starting out and im sure hell progress well. I like him so far
He looked pretty good, I think it was a great learning fight and one he can build upon. FFS if he's a 147lber he is huge @ 5ft10 (if he's legit that tall), he's a bit of a tank. My biggest concern is probably minor but he's a mouth breather and he needs to learn to breathe out his nose. The guy had his mouth wide open from start to finish, not only is it harder to breathe out of your mouth with a mouth guard it is actually easier to get your jaw broken so its quite dangerous. If he fights at a higher tempo than that and he still has breathing issues then I expect him to be having some problems to be honest.
Yeah he looks really muscular too, Kell Brook like in his physique. At 147 he is going to be a real handful. Just wonder if he'll continue keeping his hands so low like Haye when he steps up his competition.
He had his hands low as nazeem Few times he just stood bolt upright with his hands by his side using his head to avoid shots. Which looks great but no one can get away with that at a higher level
No real complaints at all and glad to see him in with someone better than a school caretaker from Lithuania fighting 4 weight classes above his previous fight. He looked sharp, enjoyable style but the kind of style that can make you come across a bit of a dick. He did get caught a few times so I wonder if Booth will make him a little more defensive minded but it was his first fight plus he was on TV so I'm being very critical in saying that. Let's see him get among the domestic scene and move on from there
I know a few boxers who have had to breath through their mouth, its when there septum gets bent inside their nose, either through one big shot or continuous blows to the nose. This can disrupt the oxygen flow. The lads i know all had surgury to sort it out but this can put you out for a bit. I would hazard a guess at thats whats going on here as you would of expected something like that to be noticed by his trainers a long time ago
